Another HSS strat question

Sorry for another question on this topic :)

----backstory for reference-----

I wanted to get a humbucker (shooting for solid classic rock tones) for the bridge of my MIM strat. It currently has the Fat 50s set in it. I'm very happy with the neck/middle but not really digging the bridge.

I've already purchased a Obsidian wire kit for HSS strats (claims to solve the 500/250 pot quandary with resistors)

I was going to just purchase a Pearly Gates or 59 hybrid (and a new pickgaurd of course) and call it a day. After reading a bit it seems that mixing brands could have phasing or polarity issues I figured it would be easier to just swap out the whole set. Bonus here is I can then sell the loaded pickgaurd with the Fat 50s on reverb or something. Probably have a much harder time selling a single bridge Fat 50.

-----actual question----
What SD neck/middle pups would perform similar to the Fender CS Fat 50s? Would SSL-1/2s do it? Are the Surfers markedly better sonically? Would the pearly gates or 59 hybrid pair well with either of those?

Re: Another HSS strat question

Dude IMO the Fat 50s are tough to beat. I'd personally get a red devil bridge and swap wires to get phasing issues solved.

Is it really as simple as just swapping the green/black wires?

Red devil isn't one I've looked at yet - will have to do that. Thanks!

Re: Another HSS strat question

After researching a bit more it may actually save me money to replace the Fat 50s completely so I can sell it as a set. With that in mind which Duncans would be fairly close to that set? Am I barking up the right tree looking at SSL-1 or Surfers?

Re: Another HSS strat question

surfers are a terrific early 60's fender sound, the ssl1 are great too. touch sharper on the top end

Re: Another HSS strat question

Surfers if you want to keep single coils, or STK-S4s if you want to go hum-cancelling and slightly higher output.

Re: Another HSS strat question

If you go duncans, for classic rock the hybrid gets a lot of love on here. I'd vote for that plus the single coils the other guys suggested.

Re: Another HSS strat question

This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-xkwOtdvRM&t=45s) is really a good starting point for Seymour Duncun HSS offering: SSL1 neck/middle and Screamin Demon bridge. Then you can ask forum members what you want based on that video. But that guy can play!!!!
The guitar is plugged into a Yamaha THR10 going direct USB.
