Re: another new Gibson model

Sweet..... The Gibson site won't show the Ebony model. If it comes with crome hardware I'm game.

How about a PG,'59,Custom combo in there. And dig the chicken head selector switch. hah

Yea, I like that SG looks appealing to me. Im not into the Custom stuff (3 gold pickups, multi ply binding, huge inlays, ebony boards) but that one looks pretty cool, a good marriage between the standard and the custom with the advantage of a 6 way switch.

Dont forget to give credit to the new Les Paul Classics...

And the new Explorer Pro:

Re: another new Gibson model

I saw that nw SG earlier today. I like it's looks, but I'm not so sure about the chicken head rotary knob.

Re: another new Gibson model

i really like the looks of the new explorer, except for the body being smaller

Re: another new Gibson model

i hate that knob, and would really like it if it was crome hardware

ditto! Id like to have had one of the pros that are discontinued with the flame maple cap!
Anyone played both the normal explorer and a smaller bodied one?? how do they compare tonallY??

Re: another new Gibson model

i thought the classic antique looked the best out of all of those. i really want one of those. anyone care to give one to me for christmas? i swear i wont be naughty

Re: another new Gibson model

*FINALLY*

Gibson is coming out with some nice "new" stuff....instead of some of the really weird things we've seen since last year.

BTW..mark my words....

There's been huge blowout sales online at all the big boys for Faded series guitars (SGs, Vs, Les Paul Standards) as well as blowing out all the Les Paul studios. AMS sold outta the Vs and SGs in a few days, and wasn;t long after, that all the Les Paul studios were gone...

Now we see these new Les Paul Antique classics..and if you read the descriptions, you'll see how Gibson is saying how affordable they will be....

I think you can catch my drift...

the 57 classics are a real nice touch ..and the inlays on these classics look normal..not yellow/snot green...

I'd be all over that Explorer if it was full size...

Re: another new Gibson model

god... some of you people are saying you can't and won't or are just completely boggled by any attempt to get used to a rotary knob that will probably take a day max to get used to?

Plus it's gotta be more effective than the traditional switching on 3 pickup gibsons.

People amaze me... they sell themselves short with stubbornness at times

anyway... it's not out of this world enough for me to like it :laugh2: and they eliminated two knobs :(

Re: another new Gibson model

you can't ever beat 3 switches with 3 pickups, it's just not possible. Plus, using on/off switches makes doing other weird things easier.

Re: another new Gibson model

I can say I NEVER was able to get used to the rotary on my PRS guitars...yuk...worst..design..EVAR.

But the way I use my pickups, I'm often flipping ver really quick...not playing for awhile on the neck..then switching to the bridge for a bit, etc...

however the chicken head prolly would make things easier than the speed knob PRS uses..

That said I had one of those SG customs with 3 pickups and a Space Ace epi......not my thing....I don't like middle pups on a fender and I like them even less on a Gibson from a playing standpoint...(though they look cool)

Re: another new Gibson model

another pup is the opposite of necessary

Re: another new Gibson model

I stuck a chickenhead on my 51 from an amp for a while for that reason :laugh2:

It's a cool concept, but if it's just a regular knob like the PRS and 51 are it's impossible to tell which pickup is on without listening, and by the time you played it it might have been the wrong one :laugh2:

anyway... I would miss the other 2 knobs. one of my favorite things about my old paul was that I could tweak the knobs on the rhythm pickup for less gain, and switch back and forth between the distorted bridge and clean rhythm... Alot like the rhythm section on the Jag ;)

And I agree that individual pickup switches are the epitome :D But I know they're a bit noiser than a toggle.

I also think middle pickups are usually a bit meh, the inbetween tones you can get on a strat are cool though... but you could get that sound from neck/bridge too, basically...
