Another new pedal day (homebrew pedal content!)

Well, I've got the build bug. I need to get a breadboard setup so I can start designing. Anyways, on to the pedal. It's a ZVex Box of Rock clone, with a couple component changes, mostly in the capacitors, and a resistor or two.

For the casing, I used an aluminum case that came with a pair of Oakley sunglasses that someone threw away because the foam inside broke down. So, I turned it into something very useful! This build lets me know I need to buy a small drill press, because drilling boards is a tedious job.

On to the pics!

Love that aluminum case, Nice work!!

I don't have my recording setup hooked up currently, and my son is sleeping. I'll sort one out soon. Another mod I just made and will likely do on all my pedals is silicone rubber washers under the knobs to keep them from turning unintentionally.

Looks cool. I guess you could call it a Box of Metal instead.

I've always liked the idea of re-purposing old containers for things like pedals. It's free and looks more unique than a regular enclosure.

ooh dat enclosure.
When I get my workbench built and my components strewn all over it, I'll be cutting up a Wal Mart muffin tin and building little Muffs in them.

I love the enclosure. And as for the pedal, what were your mods?

Mainly some capacitor value differences, and a bit lower gain on stage 2 and 3, and I shifted the orientation of the thing around so distortion is on the left, booster on the right. Nothing too crazy there. I might get a little more off the beaten path soon, but it's a good start.

I thought about raising the 5.1k resistors to see what it did. Mine had a lot more low end then i wanted, but it is based on a bass amp. I hadn't played it much over the past year. But then last weekend I used it through a blues deluxe and helped cut into the mix do well. Low gain, and volume up. It sounds great.
