That one was a great Snag! Honduran should make a Rad difference, plus, is not a featherweight. I dig that it goes 9+ pounds.

Those are GREAT guitars. Total LP killers. Absolute rock machines.

Jerry, I've experienced a higher end USA Hamer with quality Honduras and quality rosewood before, my 2005 Standard. It's a night and day difference between your typical "central/south american mahogany" utilized on the vast majority of production Gibsons or such. Only my R8 ever compared favorably.
The frets on these Hamers are about like a 6150 Dunlop- slightly wider and a tad taller than typical Gibson wire.
SS: Yeah, it very well may be a backbreaker too- my Standard was 10 pounds. The majority of Monaco elites I've looked at over the years from willcutt and Wildwood and such have been in the high 8/low 9 pound range. I believe they may be chambered...I seem to remeber some scuttlebutt about that.
weirdest thing is the Custom in the NECK, and CC in the bridge. It will get a different neck pup at some point along with some cream pup rings, and gold speed knobs.

Thanks everyone! Between the new baby and winning this guitar I couldn't hardly sleep at all last night.
To think I got it for less money than a new Gibson SG standard or V (which I was going to go shopping for today) or for a few dollars more than a new Fender Am Standard, just blows my mind.

The creme rings and gold speeds will be done right away. Eventually it will get some new pickups like Fralins 9/8 K wind PAFs, but I need a new practice/home amp first so it will have to wait.

I hear ya Bro- after having my Hamer Standard & R8, I've been unable to find something that sounds "right" and is the total package too in a Gibson style instrument. I just cannot ever be happy with lesser gear anymore (tho I have tried). The Tele is really my thing, but I need that Gibson tone at times, and this will finally give me really high quality again at a reasonable price.
I was actually about to pull the trigger on a Tokai last night after a Heritage 535 auction went over my budget- then I came across the Monaco. I figured it would go $500 higher, and my budget was only $1200 total, but would throw out a bid anyway for fun. I could not believe it went for that little.
I've played several USA Hamers, and have owned two- I had a studio very briefly in the early 90s, but it was thin neck which I hated, and I had the standard (pic below) I've played one Monaco Elite, and it's definitely in the upper echelon- easily as nice as any Custom shop Historic Les Paul, and USA Hamers are more consistent.
The only thing I'm probably not going to be happy with are the pickups..however they sound pretty good here (though of course, those are killer amps too)

Yeah Gene, I got rid of that Standard many moons ago when I got laid off from my job. Had to dump the R8 too because of that.
I'd actually been watching a killer USA Standard amber-ish top on ebay, but it was out of my price range by about 6 bills.
