The thing about the Max Grips for me is they're so grippy to the point it can be inconvenient at times. If for some reason, you end up holding your pick at a weird angle or just a bit off mid song, and you want to wiggle it to correct it, it just won't move. I kinda have to stop and reposisition it to get it right. They're really that grippy. I can use both practicing at home almost interchangeably as I have a bunch of the Max Grip ones that I bought a while ago, but If I was playing a live gig, I'd trust the non Max Grip ones slightly more, personally.

Yeah, not a knock against the Max Grips. I'm sure it's mostly user error on my side. It's just sometimes happens that the pick moves slightly. It's not common, but it happens. I can see that happening more playing live where the adrelaline is high and I'm jumping around and headbanging and whatnot, and I don't think Max Grips would want to cooperate in that scenario.

I don't really hate Max Grips either. I still have a bunch and have no intentions of throwing them out or anything. It's just a heads up if you play high-adrenaline music live with them.

Yeah, I was just kidding. FWIW, I lighten up on the index finger and then use the middle third finger to adjust in the scenario you're describing. That usually works for me for minor adjustments.

I just loosen my grip a little and bang it on the side of my guitar...whichever way it needs to adjust.

I picked up some Dunlop Prime Grip Delrin 500 Guitar Picks .96mm 12 Pack for $6. They seem like they are going to last for a while, and I love the grip. I think they are close to what Seashore was looking for based on preferences.

It's funny, since this thread first popped up, I've been giving these acoustik stealth picks a go and that's all I play now. They are pretty neat!

These look cool. I have to say I'm totally sold on the Chicken Picks. I'm playing with different shapes to see what feels best for me. They're ridiculously durable compared to Tortex/Ultex and the like.


I'm going to repost some pick pics, since it looks like my earlier pics have now disappeared for me as well.

... let's try adding more images again. Hopefully it works. Here's a view of the striking edge against a Tortex so you can see how similar it is - this is the feature of these picks that made me feel right at home despite the thicker and stiffer material.
