Another (possibly) interesting wiring diagram.

Edit: I think I've found an even better way to this, before anyone fires up the ole soldering iron. Should have it posted in a day or two. ;)

I have a toggle switch on my Strat, in place of the second tone control, so I can place the middle and bridge in series. Its a nice smooth tone. A subtle difference from the traditional notch "quack". So I thought I'd see if I could come up with a way to flip a switch and convert both the #2 and #4 positions to series. I've been messing with this today, and came up with this:

It requires a Superswitch and a simple DPDT on-on switch, like a push/pull. ;)

The first one is a schematic, the second shows how easy it is to wire a push/pull:

Its a pretty straightforward diagram. I need to order my Superswitch, so I'll let you know how it works later. Looks good on paper. ;)

I like it ,keep us posted .I've been trying to find a good way to do this too.If you added a blender pot could you get the neck and bridge in series too?

Re: Another (possibly) interesting wiring diagram.

I don't think a blender pot would do it, but if you made that switch a 4PDT, you could convert the middle-only position to neck and bridge in series when the switch was thrown. That could still be cool.

You'ld have a normal Strat 5-way with the switch "off". Then when you switched it, you'ld have:

1. neck
2. neck & middle in series
3. neck & bridge in series
4. middle & bridge in series
5. bridge

It would be like 3 additional humbuckers in a Strat. I'll add the mod tomorrow.

Re: Another (possibly) interesting wiring diagram.

I've done this with my strat, but because I hate the sound of a Strat bridge pickup on it's own I've hardwired it in permanently via a superswitch.

There are two refinements i want to try; a series cap between the bridge and mid pickups as a bass limiter, possibly adjustable via a pot, and a push/pull to switch between the two. With the superswitch you can switch between the two modes without having a dead spot on the switch when you've got the series connection enabled. Very similar to the schematic Artie's posted, but without refinement of the neck/bridge options.

I have to say that i don't think the neck-bridge option is a good idea; you'd have a big increase in noise because they wouldn't form a n/c pair.

Re: Another (possibly) interesting wiring diagram.

hi, long time ago you posted a schem for wiring a H-S-S guitar, so that with the Hb the volume acts as a 500k pot and with th SC as a 250k pot.
can you please repost that schem? 'cause i don't find it no more....

I was in the same boat for awhile. It just took a long search to find the non-twang pup I was looking for. I found it in the SSL-3. I'm guessing that because its wound so hot, it suppresses its own bright twang. Its the first Strat bridge pup that I'll use by itself.

Thats interesting. Thats pretty much what my de-mud mod is that I use on a full-sized 59 neck. Works great.

I'm glad you said that. After I got "doodling" with it, I realize that adding that seemingly simple option - isn't so simple. I think I'll let it alone.

Thats probably on my (temporarily) dead server. I'll see if I can find a local copy and repost it.
