Bought this cheap warmoth body during their recent sale. Alder with a massive swimming pool route. Finished it myself. Pretty happy with the sunburst I got for my first ever attempt with my new spray rig. Trying to make my first neck for this one too. That should be quite the experiment. We shall see how it goes but at least the body looks legit!

Great question. I have a template that I will use to route the basic shape. Maple blank with a rosewood board. I rough cut the blank and tried to route it out and wow.......tons of maple tear out. I need to go way way closer with my rough cut next time. Was trying to take off too much material with the router. For the rest I have the basic tools--fret saw, radius sander and some other stuff. I think I'll be ok but I'll screw something up along the way. All part of the process.

Looks awesome for a first finish-or a fiftieth.

When you're first building necks, consider sanding to shape rather than routing; you need a high-powered router, exceptionally sharp bit (preferably a helical) and an understanding of how to switch to climbing cuts at specific points of the outline to avoid tearout, and even then it's not a guarantee. Sanding to a clean line is slower, but safer.

If the neck comes out like the finish, that's going to be a great instrument.
