Another Spin-A-Split Idea

Here's another spin-a-split idea....

Start with a 2 HB guitar with 3 position switch, a Neck Volume pot, a Bridge Volume pot and a Master Tone pot. Use Push Pulls for all the pots.

With all pots down, the guitar is wired like normal.

When a volume pot is up, it is wired to spin-a-split its pickup instead of acting as a volume control.

I'm thinking that the loss of a volume control wouldn't be a big deal in the spin-a-split mode, since a single coil has less volume than a full HB and there would be less need to lower the single coil's volume. Anyway, the spin-a-split would act somewhat like a volume control somewhat as it travels from HB to single coil.

Oh, and then, just for good measure, when the tone pot is up, it is wired for coil swap to get inside coils and outside coils (both of which would also be affected by the spin-a-split, when that mode is selected).

I'm curious as to whether anybody thinks this would be useful or too complicated.

There's nothing wrong with the idea, and it really isn't all that complicated. But I'm make a couple recommendations. I'd use a "ganged" pot, (not to be confused with a "dual-concentric" pot), for the spin-a-split, so that the humbuckers would stay isolated from each other. "Tubes and More" sells them in various values.

Since a ganged pot can't be had in a push-pull, just use the tone push-pull to select inside or outside coils, or north and south. Whichever you prefer. Could sound cool, and the 3-way would still work. Should be a pretty versatile axe.

I wasn't thinking about concentric pots...that does sound like a better idea.
