i've got a les paul knockoff that's a good guitar but crappy pickups...so i've been amassing a collection to play with.

here's what i'm going to have available:

neck full shredder, bridge full shredder

jb bridge

pearly gate bridge

sh-14 custom 5 bridge

jazz neck

questions are:

a) what are going to be the various best combinations to try period using these.

b) for classic rock, pop, bit of blues, maybe some funk (no metal..i'm getting too old) what are the most desired combos i can come up with here to try first?

thank you in advance for any thoughts!

Re: another thoughts on these pickup combos threads:)

I'm sure the answer to a will be Jazz/JB (Seymours favorite! Although most here aren't into JB for PAuls from what I can tell.

Personally, I'm attracted to Jazz / Custom 5 combo. I think I'm going with A Jazz / Custom in a Dean I just picked up (Great guitar/lousy pups - you know what I mean)

Gates Jazz might be cool if you don't want the power of the C5

Re: another thoughts on these pickup combos threads:)

I'd suggest the Jazz/JB combo, which a lot of people seem to like, but is not my favorite.

Out of what you have, the one that appeals to me the most is the Pearly Gates in the neck and the C5 in the bridge.

For a brighter, cleaner tone, go with the Jazz in the neck and the PG in the bridge.

thanks guys..i'll try those combos first...and then the shredders in combo on the range of material and go from there..one thing i'm pretty sure of..once i find the combo i like, i'll either have a bunch of pickups for sale or better get another guitar or 2:)
