Another VS Route 66 clip, full song

Alright there was a cool little backing posted on another forum, so I decided to lay down a quick take over it to get more of an idea of what the Route 66 pedal I just got can do. This time it's on my board, so the signal is running from it through 4 other pedals and then into my PC, and the signal held up great :). I played the Schecter on the C5 in the bridge again. I had a few pops and farts and the end of the track snuck up on me :smack:, but I like it overall.

Another cool little note, since the last pedal in my chain has stereo output (Boss CH-1), I just sent one output to the PC soundcard and the other to the front end of my amp to monitor my take :). The pedal sounds GREAT pushin' some tubes, this is probably my favorite piece on my board.

The Clip!

I'll bump this up, people seem to be diggin' the shorter clip...

Re: Another VS Route 66 clip, full song

Very nice Fretfire, cool vibe. Damn, your C5 sounds FAT! Your lead is almost violin-like at times. I really should be looking for great backing track like these.

Re: Another VS Route 66 clip, full song

Thanks man, glad you liked the clip. I noticed after the fact that I wasn't digging in with the pick very much on this track, but when you do the sound really opens up as both the pedal and the pickup are very responsive to attack changes. I think playing softly helped get that tone here.

There are usually a few nice backings up in the Electric section at guitar.com, I'll start putting links to them here as I notice them from now on :).

It's a nice sound. How did you set up your R66? I've been considering the purchase of the VS Jekyll & Hyde, which is basically the overdrive of R66 with a distortion pedal. Can you compare those pedals? How do you like the compressor in R66? What do you use it for?

I'll stick a picture of the knob settings at the bottom of this post for reference. I have yet to try the Jekyll & Hyde, I only tried this pedal on a whim and lucked out :laugh2: so I can't really compare them, sorry man.

I really like the compressor on the Route 66, more than the MXR I used to use (also a great pedal, just didn't fit with my style as much, it's probably great for funk and country though). It doesn't seem to have such a noticable "squash" effect as much as it just levels everything out and adds brilliance. I seem to have a compressor on pretty much all the time for balance. Since I like to change up my pick attack a lot, it helps keep the volume of my playing in the same ballpark no matter what my right hand is doing. A touch of compression and a bit of chorus on my clean tone just makes my head spin :), and it really gives the OD side a nice kick too.

Just a note, the Volume on the OD side does not need to be that high when running it before an amp unless you want a pretty big solo "boost". Cranking it up to the area it is in the picture above is helpful when running the pedal direct into the board/PC though. I found that having it set around 11-12 o'clock gave a pretty even balance with my clean channel's volume on my amp, where the pictured position yielded a pretty big jump in volume.

Re: Another VS Route 66 clip, full song

That was cool Fretwire. Sounds completely different than my C5 . . . but then again, I don't have a Route 66. :laugh2:

Re: Another VS Route 66 clip, full song

Nevermind, I see how clearly you have it displayed in your sig now ;).

Re: Another VS Route 66 clip, full song

In my opinion one of the best tone I´ve ever heard. Unbelievable that this is a guitar. Reminds me a bit of Jeff Beck, he has sometimes this smooth synth-sound :cool3:
And of course Allan Holdsworth, this violin tone. :32:

Re: Another VS Route 66 clip, full song

Wow, thanks for the kind words :). Now I just need to get a mic to add some tubes into the mix...
