Another Wilkinson VS-100 Not Returning To Pitch

Re: Another Wilkinson VS-100 Not Returning To Pitch

Yeah, sounds kinda like me for a number of years, and even after I had lightened my right hand I still had a REALLY heavy left one, I mean I DUG GROOVES on my Strat's frets and that wasn't even on the usual "cowboy chord" frets, it was in almost the entire length of the neck. Took me literally years to learn to ease up on the left hand with admittedly limited success. Really I can only say I kinda got my technique to a relatively better place in the last 1-2 years or so. But that's another story...

yea.. my frets are dented along the whole length.. when money allows, ill get a refret with gold frets.. not as hard as SS but harder than nickel alloy.. mainly i want the gold color though or id just use SS frets

edit>> my action is like between 1.5 to 2.0 mm at the 12th fret which is exceptable to me and my style of playing.. Lots of blues so real low action is a no-no LOL...doesnt buzz except on one spot at the 14th fret and is anoying but ill live with it until a fret dress/level or a refret.. I could raise the action up a tad to counter the buzz but I really like the action now

Have you considered a fender lsr roller nut? They work for 9.5-10" radius fretboards. Definitely eliminates friction at the nut.

I had a 90 strat plus deluxe with the 2 pt trem, roller nut, and locking tuners. I tried forever to get that puppy to remain in tune. What I learned was that tuning stability is directly related to how you tune the strings. I found that tuning up to a note and then lightly stretching to eliminate any tension behind the nut.
Doing this more or less equally across all strings is what finally did it for me.

Oh, I also used 3 springs instead of two and the tremsetter that it came with.

I hear ya, I always tune UP to pitch vs. tuning DOWN. I am gonna get this sorted one way or the other or else a Tone Pro's hard tail is eminent. LOL, I aint kidding.

I tune UP to pitch too. My 93 American Standard with locking machines and a step of float stays in tune damn good btw.
