Another wiring question: automatic tone knob switch?

I've got a Strat with 3 single coils wired up to a super switch, with a volume knob and a master tone knob. When I switch to the bridge pickup position, I find myself turning the tone knob down about halfway or so. I would like to be able to switch to that position and get a similar tone without having to tweak the tone knob, and just keep the tone knob turned all the way up all the time.

Would it be possible to use one of the quadrants on the super switch to do this? Could it be done with a resistor, or would I have to introduce a separate tone pot, maybe 100k?

you could put a fixed resistor of the value of the pot at the point where you like it. i might put it on a switch so you can turn it off and get the high end back

Yup, this would do it:

You could play around with that resistor value, but somewhere between 100k to maybe 300k would probably do it. Use a trim-pot to dial-in the exact amount.

Another way would be to wire the second tone control to the middle pickup only leaving the bridge pickup without a tone control and then wire up a resistor like Artie shows but add a cap to ground to achieve the rest of the affect.

Edit: Just caught that you have a master tone. In that case, Artie's diagram is perfect. If it was Vol, Tone, Tone like a stock Strat, then the idea I proposed would work too.

GENIUS! That makes sense. Artie, you are a hell of a guy... if you're ever in Austin, drop me a line, and I'll buy you a drink or something.

Stock up on Chimay. :D

Btw - You realize, that you could make that resistor the "other" tone pot. (Assuming this is a Strat) And dial-in the amount of secondary cut.

Hah, will do. :) Got some Blue Moon, too, if you care for it.

Damn, that's a good idea, too! I was trying to remove the second tone pot entirely, but maybe that's a better solution. Rats, now I've got to decide...
