A Frusciante story I heard (on this forum I'm sure).
One of the pickups in one of his (many) vintage strats died. He decided to replace it with an SSL-1. Lo and behold when the guitar was opened up, another pickup had already been replaced with an SSL-1. The fact that the tone of the replacement pup already installed didn't sound out of place is a pretty good endorsement I'd say
