Thinking of getting a Duncan Antiquity strat pickup for the neck position of my strat (swamp ash body, maple neck & fretboard, non-fine tuner Floyd rose, single 250K volume pot). It currently has an old PAF Pro in the bridge position, but I may be swapping that soon for a Duncan '78.
I need a strat neck pickup that isn't thin or piercing, and something that still sounds stratty but without being too trebly. It's gotta balance with the '78 in the bridge. Originally I was looking at the Duncan Antiquity Surfer neck pickup, or a Dimarzio FS-1, but then remembered that Duncan makes a hotter version of their Ant Texas Hot, custom wound for the bridge. I was thinking that this extra beef may sound good in the neck position. I've had too many strat neck pickups that just sound too wimpy.
Has anyone tried the Texas Hot Custom Bridge in the neck position? Would it give me what I'm looking for? I play a lot of medium-to-high gain classic rock/80's metal stuff.
