Antiquities Mini-humbucker question

Is the Duncan Ant. Mini Humbucker LP Deluxe something like a Dun-aged "Seymourized" pickup , in the same way that the SM-3 is also "Seymourized"? I know the SM-1 is a faithfull execution of an original Mini-bucker, but just going on what I read, I take it that the Ant. Mini is voiced by Duncan to sound something like the tone of a certain vintage instrument sound , as opposed to being a dun aged SM-1 style faithfully accurate recreation of a old Mini Humbucker?

I think it's supposed to faithfully recreate the sound of a humbucker, only smaller.

There is no single "mini humbucker sound".

There are two Ant minis:
- firebird-style (magnet inside the coils)
- LP deluxe style (polepieces)

Both have vintage wind and are awg43 like the SM-3.

Thanks, I edited my Original post to reflect that its the DLx. I'm asking about.
Is the SM-1 also 43 AWG, and were the old originals also 43 AWG?
The reason Im wanting something voiced differently than an original, is that those original Minis have a very bad rap in general- not saying some have not achieved great tone with them, but just in general.
The other famous maker who shall remain unnamed, voices their Ceramic Minis to also have a fuller, more clear sound than the originals

The SM-1 is a Firebird style pickup and if you want something similar but still different check out the SM-2, it's ceramic and hotter...great upper midrange harmonic content!

Well hold on a sec. All the hotter/ceramic minis are the regular production minis and firebird-style, that means they have the magnet inside the coils and no polepieces.

I am confused as to what you are trying to achieve? Do you have pickups you don't like and want to replace?

I can tell you that the SM-1 is a pretty boring pickup overall and (although it lacks polepieces) sounds pretty much like a non-special A2 PAF.

Oh, right you are.Never noticed this. Is the SM-1 also 43 AWG, and were the old originals also 43 AWG?
I am wanting the Mini style with polepieces, however looking fopr something tweaked a littel to correct the defincies of the original mini design; thin, congested, brittle .
Thats waht the gist of my initial question was; is the Antiquities sort of "Seymourized" as opposed to just a Dun Ages SM-1 type vintage- accurate sounding pickup? I guess since you say it is wound like the Sm-1, that it is basically a Dun- aged SM-1 and nothing more?

Has anyone tried the Ant. vs the SM-1, and if so, what are the differences? I agree I wouldn't want a SM-1 authentic mini OR an aged vintage sounding Mini humbucker LP DLx; and if thats all the ANt. is, I'll pass.

I don't get you at all. Which "original design" are you talking about? Firebird style or LP Deluxe style?

I any case that statement isn't true, at least not for the SM-1s.

Did you ever hear any of these pickups?

Goddammnit, which Antiquities? There is no single Antiquities.

Neither is seymourized with the medium wire and the ceramic. And I think your desire to do that is based on false pretense in the first place.

now your pissing me off. I already said I meant the LPDLx MIni. And waht statment isnt "true" or based under false pretenses?; my statement the Mini is brittle/thin/congested?? My complaint against the mini is listed pretty much on several famous makes website pretty much verbatim. The MIni ( DLX!!!!) was always from the beginning not a great pickup in general, and thats why everyone was routing thier Dlx's and putting in Humbuckers. C'mon man, get your head out! Did you get hammered last night or something?

lIKE i SAID ALREADY dlx lp. shHHESH!!:kabong:

okay, I do appreciate your help, and I wouldn't be bothering if I didn't know you knew from whence you spoke ( did i get that right?) .. so now I know that the ANT LPDLX Mini Humbucker is =just a vintage correct mini humbucker ( LP DLX!) thats been "dun- aged", and in no way voiced/'Seymourized'?
:ok: Thanks

Re: Antiquities Mini-humbucker question

i always liked the sound of the LP Deluxe mini-humbuckers. they are chimey and Gibson-ey to my ears.

Re: Antiquities Mini-humbucker question

You can't compare the LP Deluxe pickups or the Ant versions of them to the SM series SD's...the SM-1/2/3 are based on Firebird pickups and are night and day to the Deluxe style Mini's...

Re: Antiquities Mini-humbucker question

I may be a Genesius to everyone, but I'm only a genius compared to people like you.

Re: Antiquities Mini-humbucker question

Jerry- grab a set of (recent) Gibson minis with the pole pieces . I had a set on a MF LP Deluxe and they were awesome- much thicker than not only the Firebird style minis, but the ones that were in my late 70s Norlin Deluxe which were pretty anemic. The current version are ceramic, but not too harsh, and not anemic in the least (around 9K +, IIRC) They will rock hard though sounding more like a true "mini" PAF than the older deluxe & FB style. They are pretty tight, punchy, articulate, and have lots of bite.

Outstanding! I was going for the Alnico, and was wanting something like this that you described and thought maybe the Ant. Dlx LP. might be the answer.

Re: Antiquities Mini-humbucker question

i have a set of the antiquity II lp deluxe style minis and they sound great. you dont need to know much else. it sounds like a great lp deluxe style mini humbucker. the modern gibson ones arent my favorite but they are thicker and hotter if thats what you want
