I mentioned a while back that I put a pair of Antiquity humbuckers in a PRS Soapbar SE. They sounded nice alone, but after using it with a full band, I found the sound was too washed out to cut through the mix. So I swapped out the alnico II magnets for alnico V bar magnets that I bought from from Allparts.
I mostly play Strats so I haven't had lots of opportunities to use this guitar with the full band. Twice I used it with my 1966 Deluxe Rev in small clubs and it sounded really nice. But that was though my standard pedal rig.
This week I dragged my 1969 Twin Rev (which has been stored away for years) to my amp shop to clean it up and get it working again. Today I brought that PRS with me. After I finished working on the amp I plugged this guitar straight into it and once I was sure the amp was OK I opened it up full.
It's a great sounding amp. But I'm posting this because these pickups are just unbelievable. With no pedals, straight into a stock amp, this rig was absolutely screaming. You would have thought I had the world's best OD pedal in the line. It was like the best Gibson gutiar sounds from the 60s suddenly fell into my lap.
My ears are still ringing.
