Antiquity Humbucker Question

Hey y'all, has anyone ever taken the covers off an antiquity? What do you get, nice clean coils, or is there a bit of grunginess around the polepieces, discolored coils, etc... like an old paf... I mean just how "aged" are they?

I am considering a set for my late 70's les paul standard, run thru a 73 marshall, and I'm going for a cream era clapton tone as a basis with a little more gain i guess, and I am wondering if they're worth the extra $$, or would a set of 59's do the trick?

Re: Antiquity Humbucker Question

The polepiece screws are aged and the bobbins have an aged look because they are the original bobbin material and colored to look older. They are not artificially grunged up like the Tele or Jazz Bass pickups. I think they look vintage and pretty cool though. Somebody here who has removed a cover could probably post a picture.

Bobbin color is random and you run the chance of getting cream, black, zebra or reverse zebra. You can check bobbin color before removing the covers by taking out one of the brass mounting screws for each bobbin and peeking in through the hole to look at the bobbin color.

Thanks! I'd love to see a pic if anyone can post one. Sounds pretty cool all around. From the reviews, they seem worth the price, my impression is that the bridge ant is wound a little hotter than the 59. Is that right?

Re: Antiquity Humbucker Question

8.13 for the 59', 8.52 for the Antiquity. Specs will vary a little more on the antiquity since it comes with slight DC variations, like the originals, but yes...it's a little hotter.
