Antiquity humbuckers vs skinnerburst

Re: Antiquity humbuckers vs skinnerburst

they are similar in that they are paf style humbuckers. so compared to a hotter pup they are similar.

they differ in that the wind is not the same and the magnets are aged a2 in the antiquity and a3 in the skinner burst. the skinner burst are designed to sound just like the pups in a specific '59 les paul. i have the antiquities but have never heard the skinners in person to comment

Re: Antiquity humbuckers vs skinnerburst

i agree. i have antiquitys, seths, 59's, pearlys, wlh, and some custom shop stuff all in the paf vein. even the jazz and aph which while they arent as paf like as the others they still have some similarities. i like lots of options

I'm wondering if you think I was saying the more pickups the better. lol! I was suggesting the more info about the SB set the better.

it seems the best place to find info about this set is on MLP forum. and there, several customers are suggesting the neck pup is noticeably lower in volume... and that it can be inconsistent from one set to another. it'd be nice to find out, as this set has been interesting.

Re: Antiquity humbuckers vs skinnerburst

I saw that thread, but I haven't noticed it. Since these are hand made, I would assume there would be some variations. But there has to be some standards (the pickups in the actual guitar) that they are adhering to. I wonder if the original guitar sounds like that? There seem to be several people who noticed this about their sets.

Re: Antiquity humbuckers vs skinnerburst

I'm going to look into the mismatch a little bit further. I was considering going with a set of these for my LP versus a PG set. I solo on the neck quite a bit and a noticeable volume mismatch wouldn't be great...

That was an interesting thing they were talking about over there. Wasn't it the one guy that's as confirmed to have gotten 2 neck models?

Well one guy did get two neck pickups but he wasn't the one complaining of the mismatch. There may be some issue there because some owners say they don't have that mismatch in their sets at all...of course he was also replacing a set that had a burstbucker 3 in the neck position and a custombucker in the bridge...maybe he is expecting a similar relationship between the neck and bridge Skinner set but I think the burstbucker 3 would be quite a bit hotter than the Skinner neck?

That does sound familiar. The JB Lester had a stronger neck model. But I didn't catch how many were actually putting them in a JB Skinner Lester or just speaking from knowledge of the Gibson BB pups.
