Antiquity mini humbucker question

I really am digging my gibson lp 60's tribute, especially since I added a gibson mini hb in the neck slot. Since then, I have had a gibson mini in the bridge, and it just doesn't have quite enough fullness to it. I have tried a sd vintage p90 in the bridge, nice but a bit hot to match with the mini. Also tried a sm-3b mini, and I like this one, but a bit compressed compared to the gibson mini. My question is this: is the ant. Bridge Mini being wound hotter than the neck version (which is very close to my gibson at 6.8k) full enough to not be shrill like the stock gibson bridge mini. I have only heard one video of the ants in a 70's sg, and to me they sounded like they would be the ticket.

Re: Antiquity mini humbucker question

The Ant Minis are a different animal. They are not as hot as any recent Gibson and have a twang to them almost like a Strat/single coil. But that's how the originals were (apparently). If you have a Gibson mini that is 6.8k, sounds like you have an old one. Ants might match it, if that's the case.

Re: Antiquity mini humbucker question

The 6.8k gibson mini is a current production (2013) I was hoping that at 8.1k, that the bridge ant mini would be a slightly hotter than the gibson, to balance out.

Re: Antiquity mini humbucker question

the wind may be hotter but the magnet is degaussed so not sure how the outputs would match up

Re: Antiquity mini humbucker question

That may not be such a bad thing... Plus, it would give me a reason to get the neck ant mini at a later date...
I basically just wanted to make sure the bridge ant mini would be thicker than the vintage gibson counterparts in a lp deluxe type situation.

What you're looking for is probably the Duncan SM-2B. It's less compressed than the SM-3B, and hot enough to match the Gibson mini neck. Ideally, sell everything and get a SM-2B/SM-1N.

Re: Antiquity mini humbucker question

i dont know if the antiquity is thicker or not, havent heard a modern version of a vintage wind gibson. the antiquity is great but very classic mini-humbucker sounding which is bright and punchy.

Re: Antiquity mini humbucker question

Hi all...

Good thread!

:)

I have a 76 Deluxe, and its buckers are 6.45K and 6.30K. I love them!

It is just that I have a serious squealing issue... I have potted the covers, it was of some help but still no cigar. And I am not a big fan of degaussed mags. By the way I am also a bit afraid of potting them fully, on account of losing their open tone.

Any suggestions?

B

I had given some thought to leaving the sm3b in there, and adding a sm-1n in the neck, but the gibson sounds so darn good in the neck I can't bring my self to change it. Just am looking for a bit more muscle in a trad looking (read: lp deluxe) mini format

Re: Antiquity mini humbucker question

Thanks all for the input, I think I am going to do what I should have done in the first place, and have one custom wound.
