Well, as usual with me, this story is a little convoluted. Short version, I finally got tired of the mini-humbucker in the bridge of my '77 Deluxe. Picked up a Dimarzio P-90 and gave it a try. Blech, muddy inarticulate, WAY too boomy. Changing magnets didn't help one bit. Took it back out after 2 hours of tweaking pole and pickup heights. Started to think the pickup change was a bad idea, but decided to give a cheapie Mighty-Mite P-90 a try. WAY better than the Dimarzio, but still a little too dark, but usable with the pickup really low and the poles raised close to the stings. Good enough to be satisfied with a neck P-90.
Then I heard John Wymore is going out of business and was having a closeout sale. We got an unexpected $600 bonus at work, so I decided to jump on a Duncan Antiquity neck P-90. WOW. I am in love!! PERFECT match for the Shed PAF Daddy in the bridge. Warm, punchy, articulate, very responsive to pick attack. Everything a good vintage P-90 should be. Now I'm spoiled, tho. Seymour Duncan is the man!!!
Very cool packaging...
Out with the Mighty Mite. You can see what color this fiddle started out as...
Not 2 minutes after soldering it in and re-tuning. No adjustments whatsoever, EXACTLY what I was hoping for PICKGUARD OFF!!!!:laugh2::laugh2:
Few outdoor shots. Sorry, I'm a lousy photgrapher!!
