Antiquity Surfer / C59 hybrid polarity

I just put wired up a loaded pickguard that I got from 920D custom, HSS with a C59 hybrid in the bridge and two surfers for neck/middle. The 2 position with bridge is currently out of phase, and it has a super switch on it, is it just a matter or flipping the phase on the humbucker?

Thanks

Re: Antiquity Surfer / C59 hybrid polarity

I swear, the 920D folks are still sending out untested pickguard assemblies that don't work as described. We never bought one from them that actually worked correctly. Every single one of them needed to be rewired, some were bad enough they had to be sent back.

No idea why they don't hire/train competent help down there.

Simply make sure to use the standard wind pickup in the middle position the RW RP in the neck and the pos 2 will hum-buck with the tapped Custom coil. Check the color codes as everything else code wise should wire as normal. Only exemption I know of would be using a pair of north leading Texas Hots where the RW/RP center is actually a normal wind so--.

Not entirely sure why, but I went ahead and just flipped the black and green wire and now it sounds fine in the 2 position [emoji2371]

Wonder did the folk who wired the pickguard wire the singles backwards then? Polarities should have been as normal even if the Surfers were North leading like the Texas Hot so?? Is pos 2 humbucking with the bucker split?

yes, flipping the black and green is what you needed to do. glad its a simple fix but its pretty lame that they couldnt do it right before it was sent out

Thanks man! I contacted 920D about it, hoping some constructive criticism will be good for them.

Re: Antiquity Surfer / C59 hybrid polarity

In other news, It’s installed in the guitar and sounding great. I was kind of surprised at the tonal difference from my old hamer to the strat with the 59/C hybrid. In the strat it’s pretty dark sounding, in the Hamer it was really quite bright. They installed a 500k pot for master volume so that the bridge pickup always sees 500k, and resistors for the neck/middle so it sees 250/300k. Still Messing around with pickup height

How is the volume difference between the Hybrid and the Surfer? This is a combo I always wanted to try.

Out of the box it was noticeable, but after adjusting the heights on all pickups, and accommodating for positions 2/4, it’s pretty even now.

The surfers are very clean and very bright. A little more than I expected, but not a bad thing.

Re: Antiquity Surfer / C59 hybrid polarity

After a few months of playing the hybrid; I’ve determined it’s not the right fit for this guitar. I think what I’ve been hearing as a perceived lack of clarity is most likely a midrange/low Mid bump between the pickup and the mahogany body. Sounds like a pickup with a mid scoop might be the best fit for this guitar.
