Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

i have had them-- i still have some of them--

they bee-- on a shelf -- if that tells ya much?

i am not a strat cat -- so my strats are also in the valut here --

i have stuck to my out-of-the-box SSL-1's since 1991

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

I love the Antiquities! warm and smooth.

I also love the APSs and SSLs too, though. The California Set looks like a great deal.

I tend to agree with the conventional wisdom that Alnico 2 pickups are best for ash bodies, and Alnico 5 pickups for alder bodies, although I've used APSs in alder too.

anyway, the Antiquities are great

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

I have Antiquities Texas Hots in one of my Strats. I like them very much.

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

I have a set in one of my G&L Legacys: with a RW/RP in the middle and the Custom Hot Antiquity Bridge. Nice set, mellower that the stock G&L pickups or the Duncans G&L used on the early Legacys. Not as much glassiness on the top, but a much more smokier and complex midrange.

Bottom line: I love them, but probably wouldn't bother to put them in ALL of my guitars--I also enjoy that "vintage" glassiness in my other Legacys.

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

i swap out my kinmans for a set of ants texas hots and custom bridge. the kinmans are the most authentic noiseless true singles i've tried but they are plenty bright in my swamp ash/1-pc maple usacg strat.

so in comes the tex hots and they smoke! nice rounded bell tone that complimented the inherent brightness in my strat. notes tend to bloom after being picked. as stated by boogie bill and curly, the tex hots has complex mids and less glass making them sound warm and smooth. also, they sound a tad compressed to my ears.

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

Nice to hear!! I just got a set and plan on throwing them in a 57 RI. Just waiting for a new Guard!!

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

the texas hot neck pickup is the warmest, most buttery strat neck sound i've played through so far.. the regular (6.37k?) bridge has a lovely 'clang' and bite to it.. it makes for a vicious rhythm voice! i don't know if i'd want a hotter bridge pickup, i use heavy strings on the strat and the fact that it's wound so light allows you to really dig in and battle with the guitar, without ever going muddy.. i love it!

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

I put an Antiquity I Texas Hot neck and Custom bridge in my Texas Special Strat, and they work perfectly with the stock Texas Special RWRP middle pickup. It took me awhile to find the right height adjustment, but I finally found that the bass side needed to be approx. the same height as the treble side for my tastes -- the low end was lacking otherwise. This setup is very different from the SSL-1's/Twangbanger combo that I have in another Strat, as the bass side of those pickups is adjusted lower than the treble side. Anyway, now the Ants sound absolutely great!

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

on the side, everybody i've heard who tried the tex hots (in this forum and my country) simply loved them. you can't go wrong with it.

Re: Antiquity Texas Hots w/Antiquity Custom

Heres another vote for the Texas Hots. I spent years swapping pup's in my Strat until I got these. I have the surfers and love those too,but the TH's are my favorite.
