Antiquity vs. WCR Crossroads Neck & Darkburst Bridge

I dont post here much i mostly post on the MLP forum but i know alot of people like the WCR pickups over there and didnt want to start a war. I was going to trade my set of Ants for a set of WCR pickups a crossroads neck and a darkburst bridge. The original deal was for us both to send the pups are the same time, if one or the other wasnt happy we would trade back. Well i ended up running into a problem swapping out the UO A5 magnet i had in the bridge back with the stock aged A2 and wasnt able to send mine out. I received his pickups the next day and informed him of what happend and he told me to give them a spin anyway and see if id be interested in buying them.

Well i have tried alot of pickups in my day and i have to say these pickups are just BLAH. Idk if its just this particular set but man they are just horrible sounding. I guess if your into playing heavily overdriven stuff you may like them. Because it took alot of gain to get any kinda character from them. The cleans with these things are just plain and dull and just very very uninspiring. Very dull and flat plain sound. I played with them adjusting the pup height and just couldnt find anything close to good. I think the stock pickups in my Epiphone Standard sound better than these and im not just saying that i really think they do i tried both guitars my epi and my r9 with the wcr pups and to me the stock epiphone hotch 57gh pickups sounded better. Im not sure if im just spoiled with my Ant set or what. Ive heard nothing but great things about WCR and have been wanting to try some of the boutique paf replicas. Boy am i glad i didnt just trade straight up i would have been so disappointed.

Has anyone else had any similar experience with WCR pickups? There is no way i could ever see spending $300+ on a set of these things. No way.

no by all means please do. It just doesnt seem right to me because this company has alot of great reviews. Im thinking the set i got may have just been a lemon set or something and thats why the guy is wanting to trade them out. I mean if you buy them they are about $300 a set before shipping that doesnt include covers, with aged covers being more expensive. Thats why i made this post not to bash WCR but to see if anyone else has had similar experiences because i was expecting the compete opposite. I know ANTs are a GREAT pickup but everyone is always bragging about how the Ants are great but they dont compare to any of the boutique pups. Im starting to think thats bulllllsheeeeeet because ive tried alot of pickups boutique and not and for some reason the Ants, SH-1 59's, Seth Lovers and Pearly Gates were all great pickups that were just as good as any boutique pickup winder.

I like the WCRs even better than the Ants. The only "problem" is that the Darkburst is a little fat for my taste.

Maybe the set you are toying with has been ordered with "heavy metal class" potting? Or is fake? After all the WCRs' only marking is a sharpie stroke.

Never owned any WCR's, but I've always read great reviews. I too wonder whether they're fakes. I guess you could always contact WCR to see if they'd take a look at them.

Beanx , I mentioned that I was going to post about the WCR's I just got and installed..... Well after playing for a while a low volumes, cuze my landlord
lives up stair, they sounded Goood, Just a while ago they left, so I was able to play loud, and they do sound GREAT !..... I have them in a brand new SG, that came loaded w/Burstbuckers, BTW, they sound very good.... Of course I wanted something hot so I went for the Burstbuckers-Pro w/A5 magnets...Nice and crisp, very clear , a little too bright in the treble so had to roll the tone off some....But I do like those Pup's !...... Now the WCR's, initially , did not impress me,
a littlle more focus in the mids, softer in the Highs no as sharp on the low A and E strings. So, Nothing to brag about it , but when I hit a pedal, just to give a little hair , WOW ! do they Opened Up !!!! they Love pedals !!! Can wait to play at the local Jam, and open the volume up.....Over all, they are Keepers, but I was expecting more.... Maybe because all the hoopla about them, expectation are way over the top.... Also, this ones are Zebras uncovered, and the Gibsons -Pro are Nickel covered.....witch I believe ads some to the detail or more trebling ?......This is my experience with them so-far......BTW, they do have a sharpie line on the back, one was blue other red if I recall......
