Ants vs PG?

Re: Ants vs PG?

Yeah? I never heard the Seth bridge brighter than the PG. Maybe it is my ears, but the PG bridge seems overtly bright to me.

Re: Ants vs PG?

I'm aiming at set vs set. I want to put them in the C-1 Classic (maple/walnut neck through mahogany wings and rosewood board), since I have two metal guitars now. Didn't want to be too specific as to get a wider opinion as to why either or. What's your expierience with them, or what else would you recommend? I've read Seth/Ant neck and a PG bridge would be great for a little more versatility. According to videos and samples here, Seths and Ants are pretty close, but I feel that Ants sound sweeter.

blueman335: So PGs, in your opinion, will work better on a brighter guitar?

If your guitar is bright acoustically i definitely wouldn't put Ants in it as they are bright like a tele and are unpottted which makes them more microphonic as well
A recipe for disaster

Re: Ants vs PG?

All of my Ant humbuckers are unpotted and have never had microphonic issues. Whatever Seymour does, it works.

Re: Ants vs PG?

at least in this guitar with my seth bridge and my pgb the seth was brighter, the pgb has a upper mid snarl that i could see coming across as bright but it didnt have the same high end teeth that the seth did. antiquities can be thin in the bridge of the wrong guitar, the weak magnet gives it a fairly narrow tone in some guitars through some amps. in others it sounds just lovely. never had an issue with antiquity buckers feeding back. ive had more issues with tele bridge pups than anything else

Re: Ants vs PG?

You're lucky, i could talk into mine and it would come out the amp !!

It is all about volume and gain levels. I use about "Tube Screamer with gain at 5" levels of gain at the most, so they are quiet for me.

Re: Ants vs PG?

It you ask me, the arguably "best" mag combo for the Ant set's gotta be fully-charged A3 for the neck, A2 for the bridge.

This would give a round for its money and then some to many hi-end boutique offerings costing five hundred bucks and more.

^ And you could throw UOA5 and A4 in there too as mags that work as a pair if you wanted a bit more top-end detail.

Like all things......the guitar and your ear is the key, not $$ spent. I have had a guitar where a 490R pair with short A5's beat a handwound set of pickups. But the handwounds killed those same 490's in the SG the 490's had come from in the first place......its so finicky matching guitars and pickups.
