Any advantage for using a 1Mg. Vol. Pot?

I just installed a Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge section of my Peavey HP. I currently have 250k pots, I really want to get the most out of this pup, do you think it would make a very big difference in volume by switching to a 1Mg. pot? I know it would make it brighter sounding which isn't a problem. I love the sound of this pup, very tight and the harmonics are sweet, I just want to open her up all I can, I just havent really experimented with this type of vol. pot. Thanks for any info, I appreciate it.

It won't increase or decrease the output at all. When the volume knob is on "full", the signal goes straight trough it ;)

that's what I thought until I experimented and there is a difference. I do not know why though. If you check on a VOM it says there is not resistance but when you try it there is.

You can really hear it when you don't have a tone pot hooked up.

Re: Any advantage for using a 1Mg. Vol. Pot?

Right. 250K means that above that level there is bleed. The 1M pot will have less of a load on the Evo. That might even be a bad thing since the Evo is so screamy. Here is a good way to test if you will like the sound of a 1M pot. Disconnect the volume knob and wire the hot straight through to the output jack. That will truly give you no load, and you will be able to hear the difference. If you hear no difference, then who cares? If you like it, then go to 500k or 1M, or install a no load pot or modify yours for no load.

Would a 1 meg pot sound the same as direct to jack or a no load vol pot?

Re: Any advantage for using a 1Mg. Vol. Pot?

No, becasue there´s still a load... it WILL sound closer to Direct to Jack than a 500k pot, though ;)
