Any amp builders, pedal builders, pickup winders and/or electronics hobbyists that would consider showing pics of their benches/workshops? It would be great to see where all this gear starts out as just a pile of components, enclosures, wire, etc. and ends up as the finished product.

and/or

Any info as to the the test/measurement equipment you have found useful would also be appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Hey, Greco, how's things up in K-W; I lived there in mid 70s; Marsland Engineering mean anything to you? (You may be too young).

Anyway, I'm lucky enough to work in the audio industry, so I always have fully equipped test benches at my disposal. If not, first and foremost, get a Fluke portable multimeter. That'll take care of all most of your guitar needs. For amps, an average signal generator and scope will go a long way in repairs and starting up newly built amps. A Variac is great, too. Then you should make your own test cables with the connectors on the ends that you use - a real timesaver.

Good luck, and be very, very careful!

Thanks Noth:

I do know of Marsland Eng. as our birthday cakes have a similar candle count. You would be amazed at the growth of the K-W area if you haven't been here for a while.

I have a Weller station, a Fluke meter, a small scope, signal generator, freq. counter, variac, DC power supply, lots of test cables/connections that I made (as you suggested), and a small cap meter. Much of my stuff is from an estate sale of a an acquaintance (I helped his wife sell some of his stuff, and bought some for myself) I was really lucky.

I'm just learning about all this stuff and never seem to have enough time to work, do/study electronics and play guitar. I'm working on a clone of the Champ.....nothing has progressed with it in several months, but my guitar playing has and I've also repaired/modded a few guitars during that time.

I'll be careful, don't worry.
I'm a bit too fearful at times, and that frustrates me.

Appreciate your response.

PM me if you are going to be up here in K-W and I'll buy you a beer.

Dave

P.S. the weather still stinks for about 8 months

Greco,

Well, it'll be some time but I'm planning to build a Mission 5E3 kit. When it's done I'll be happy to post pics. Just got word that my new SD pups are on the way, though, so I hope I'll be doing that this weekend.

Yeah, never enough time to practice enough.

I've heard how much K-W has grown; also that Marsland and its parent company Leigh Instruments is long, long gone.

Keep well,
Noth
