Any CLassic '57 fans??

I just got a Les Paul Classic loaded with these pickups and they are really good sounding.

The one in the neck is really really good sounding....this is what I wanted my '59 to sound like but it wasn't even half as good. It's creamy and smooth but without the boomy bottom end of the '59. It's got more of a singing sweet top end as well...just very sweet sounding overall.

In the bridge it's a little underpowered for my taste and a touch too vintage and loose but it's still good for classic rock.

Anyone else like these?? Stupid question but what are the closest Duncans/Dimarzios to these?

i have a set that came stock in my 2002 Gibson ES335 Dot RI.
All i can say that they make the guitar sound the way an ES335 is supposed to sound, judging from classic 335 recordings, and i don't see the need to change them out for anything.

I'm a fan!
I had one in the frankenstrat I built. I enjoyed it, but I LOVE my JB!
Rock On!

I had a set in a LP standard & really liked 'em, But I must say the set of Antiquities I have in there now kicks the livin sh!t outta them. Just my .02

Peace,

Darrin

Darrin, im curious, could you describe in detail the ways in which the Antiquities kicked the living sh!t out of the 57s? ;)

i don't really know if my 335 can sound any better (to me) than it already is.. :P

Re: Any CLassic '57 fans??

My '91 LP Classic came to me with a set of '57 Classics installed. I played them for about three months. They had a good classic rock tone, but I had a similar issue with them to what I have experienced with a 490R/498T set, though to a lesser degree. The bridge pickup was a little too harsh and the neck pickup was a little muddy, especially for cleaner tones. When I compared the '57s with the Seths in my '96 Standard I eventually concluded they had to go. The Seths were so much smoother, clearer and more articulate. I have a set of Alnico II Pros in the Classic now and those are a great improvement. The Seths are still top of the pile for me though.

How do the Alnico II Pros compare to the '57s??? I'm looking for a neck pickup like the '57 but with a touch more upper end too....but NO more bass than it.

I think the AII Pro neck would suit you. It is bright on the top end, but not harsh. I think the bass is softer than the '57. It has a full sound, but nicely balanced. Much clearer than the '57.
