Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

I have this strange notion in my head that Fenders only do clean, which I know isn't true. As I've posted a million and a half times, my only experience with a cranked Fender was a Silverface Bassman, and it was awesome. Does anyone have any clips of a cranked and/or boosted (no TS style, please) Fender Deluxe? A Les Paul would be awesome... :D

Uhh... Blackface Reverb? Is there a Tweed Deluxe, and if so what the difference between that and the blackface?

Re: Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

they are not really similar amps

tweed Deluxes are known for warm crunch and sustain

Deluxe Reverbs are versatile amps, from clean to mild OD, often used as small club amps

I have a few clips of my '56 Deluxe, although it doesn't seem to be what you're looking for:

Re: Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

Maybe the Tweed Deluxe is what I'm looking for. Is that the infamous 5E3 circuit? I found a few clips on YouTube of the Tweed and it's very nice. I like your clips, that fuzz is smooth. You don't have any clips of it with a clean boost, do you?

Re: Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

which Deluxe?

I thought there were only Narrow panel deluxes ('55 or so) and the wider panel deluxes.

Any other amp that uses deluxe is not the same circuit.

So, the Fender Deluxe amp is the 5e3 circuit, and it is the Tweed you've mentioned, less headroom, growlier, beautiful when overdriven. The Deluxe reverbs have the AB763 circuit, and is the blackface. Cleaner, brighter and smoother, more understated overdrive.

Both are killer when cranked!

Re: Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

Fender also made brownface and blackface Deluxe amps (no reverb), and blackface and silverface Deluxe Reverbs.

Thus my question.

the tweed amps evolved from the wide panel to narrow panel -- the same basic circuit, but "refined" over time; although they kept the same model name, I think the circuit probably changed with the brownfaced model -- I'd have to check my schematics to be sure.

they are all great amps. as with other models, the Deluxe Reverb has an extra half gain stage than it's non reverb brother.

Were there any circuit changes accross the tweed/brown/blackface deluxes, or were the differences cosmetic?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

I can't remember if the brownfaced carried the same "licensed circuit" disclaimer as the tweeds.

Re: Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

the browns were different than the blacks or tweeds and early tweeds are quite different than laters tweed

Re: Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

A cranked Deluxe Is probably my favorite amp ever. They are real ballsy But loud as my cuban girlfriend. I dont know if I trust attenuator....

Re: Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

The only experience I have with Deluxes is my Reissue with a vintage speaker and NOS tubes.

When I bought the amp I got it pretty blind; I had an event coming up and I knew if I walked in with a modeling amp I would be laughed at so I went toa guitar show and just found something with tubes.

I got it home and played it and was woefully unimpressed.

I slapped a Tube Screamer in front of it and again I was unimpressed.

Then I got upset that I'd spent as much money as I'd had and not gotten an amp I was happy with so I cranked the Volume to about 8 or 9 and plugged in a Les Paul.

Suddenly I wasn't upset anymore.

To me the sound of the Blackface Reverb cranked is VERY much what i associate Duane Allmans sound to be. On tracks like "Whipping Post" it has that really nice warm and creamy tone to it that I almost exclusively associate with Marshalls, but without the muddiness.

The amps really LOVE to be cranked and with that it gets a sound out of it that always makes me smile.

Re: Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

The Tweed Deluxe is THE Neil Young sound, isn't it.

I've always loved the Franklin, I may need to comission Scott to make me a trifecta of Celtics... :)

Re: Any clips of a cranked Fender Deluxe?

I know. The Franklin is one of the most delicious sounding little amps I've heard. EL84 with a little voxy flair. And of course the Marshall clone would round out the trio. :)
