Any experience with Rivera?

I have hardly any experience with Rivera but I played a used rake reverb head today through a 2x12 and it was pretty killer.

What do you guys think?

My best friend has a Knucklehead combo, it's really an amazing amp, great cleans, awesome clarity with the gain jacked....One of my favorite amps...I've been emailling Rivera for years to make a lunchbox version of said amp...

Re: Any experience with Rivera?

I am very out of touch w Rivera.
Used to have an original 100@W Knucklehead half stack.
Still have the 4x12, it's amazing.

Re: Any experience with Rivera?

yeah I can't say that I've played or heard many, but the one that I played yesterday was amazing. I wonder what the going rate for a used one is because it was going for pretty cheap. It had some cosmetic damage but I have no problem with that.

The coolest feature is that channel one and two can both be used for clean, crunch or dirty / they have their own EQ / and each channel has a foot switchable boost built into it. very versatile.

I had an R100 combo, it was a nice amp. I did let it go for different flavors but I wouldn't mind having another one some day.

Don't they have an amp with a stereo power section? It seems like I remember somebody on here asking about speakers for it because he was running 6L6s on one side and EL34s on the other. I can't remember the model name, but the thought of having a tube amp that a guy could run stereo effects with is interesting.

Great amps. American-made and sound great. They're generally a bit on the bright side, but it's my understanding that it's because Rivera started out modding Fender amps. The cleans are very Fender-like generally, but great cleans nevertheless. Their overdrive sounds generally remind me of kind of like a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe except better. They don't keep their value that well on the used market, but that's great because people who know how good their amps are can swipe them up much cheaper than retail. They're highly underrated and undervalued in my opinion.

Re: Any experience with Rivera?

They are well made amps.
Paul Sr worked for Fender in the 1980's...up until CBS sold the bz.
He had already opened his own Tech/Music Business before he worked for CBS...so when they folded, he concentrated on this own brand.
He has done some innovative stuff over the years...including an All Tube "acoustic" guitar amp.
Just a matter if the amp sounds/feels good to your ears and fingers.
No doubt you can get a great Rivera on the used market.
best

Well I played it again and I'm pretty pleased with it. I bought it but I can't bring it home until the fifth so I'll have to run it through its paces with some different speakers and cabs

Re: Any experience with Rivera?

I've owned a couple of Rakes (one w/reverb, one without). I prefer the non-reverb variant because I found the focus control more useful than the reverb. Reverb is good but the focus knob is a powerful tone shaper. Riveras are reliable and versatile. It doesn't say Fender Or Marshall on the front but it covers both vibes as well as anything you're likely to find, particularly I the price range. The thing absolutely shines when you get it in a mix.

Hey thanks! That's good to know because a lot of amps don't sound as good to me in the mix as they do alone. I'm sure that's pretty common though

Re: Any experience with Rivera?

Good amps. If I wasn't so happy with the Mesa amps I have, Rivera would be the first place I would start looking.
