Any Fender Super Reverb Users out there?

I'm looking for other bros on this forum who own -- and use on at least a semi-regular basis -- a Fender Super Reverb. Just interested in chatting about different sounds, setups, settings, etc.

Re: Any Fender Super Reverb Users out there?

I just sold my Super Reverb but I've owned a bunch of them. I think the '74 model can be tweaked to sound better than a stock mid 60's blackface SR and for that reason the '74 is my favorite year for a SR. I find the usual CTS speakers to be a little to sharp sounding for me...kind of like a JB pickup!:laugh2: They hurt my ears. I like Weber P10Q 30 watt 10's better.

I always mod my Fenders by putting reverb on both channels and then revoicing one channel or both so that one has more of a plexi/tweed tone.

I wouldn't even know where to begin modding my SR to have one channel sound more like a Plexi but I'd give my best friend's right arm to learn!

It's easy: just buy Gerald Weber's Directory of Hip Guitar Amps Volume I. I forget the actual title but it's something like that. He goes through all of the popular blackface Fender amps and describes in detail what to do to "improve" them...

I have had my Super for about 15 years..... an quite frankly I would never sell it. It is the best cean... slightly overdeiven amp I have ever played thru. I bought it from a friend and I know it is not stock, but it is a '68 or '69. From 0 to 4 it is really clean. From 5 and above it really cranks. I usually have the Bass set at 6 or 7 treble about the same and mids about the same (depending on the room). I also use a modded TS9 with it and use lt sort of lioke a channel switch. When Ikick in the tubescreamer it adds volume and sustain, so I baically use this for leads. I also A/B this setup with a Marshall 900 so I have a lot of versatility with this. I tend to use the Super for my Clean sounds and the Marshall for my drive sounds.... this works well for me. If I had to use just one amp...... it would be a hard choice... but Iwould probably pick the Super.... I think the cleans are far better than the Marshall.

Ah well...I bought the book anyway on your recommendation. Should be a good learning experience.

Cool! You'll learn alot. Great book!

Volume II is also excellant has alot of chapters written by Ken Fisher...tube tone guru behind Tranwreck amps. Lots of great info on Marshalls and Marshall transformers and Celestion speakers in Vol. II.

Weber also has a new book and DVD. It's advertised in Vintage Guitar, and available several places.

Looks like the new book will be on the shelves in mid-March. Maybe by that time I'll be ready to move to the next level.

Re: Any Fender Super Reverb Users out there?

owned one. not sure of the year, it ain't the reissue. But I too won't sell it because as mentioned earlier, its one of the best clean I can ever get even with a cheap guitar.
The bright doesn't differ much from the main however and forget about the distortion.

Yep...I'll bet that puppy does sound real clean! But it's not a Super Reverb...It's a Super Twin Reverb. Very differeant beasts...
