Any good 4 ohm 50W speakers you guys know of?

I'm looking to replace the two 12" speakers in my new amp, or perhaps get another little cab. I need 4 ohm 50W speakers. Anyone know of any?
Thanks!

Re: Any good 4 ohm 50W speakers you guys know of?

Just so you guy know, I don't know anything about any of this. So if my amp questions seem dumb, they are. I know a lot about guitars, but amps are not my bag.

Re: Any good 4 ohm 50W speakers you guys know of?

I just read somewhere online that I can plug 4, 8 or 16 ohm speakers into a 4 ohm amp. Is this correct? Thanks!

Sorry about this guys. I'm sure you're all having a good laugh at my ignorance.

Re: Any good 4 ohm 50W speakers you guys know of?

Is it a SS or tube amp? In a SS amp, it's safe to run any load higher than the minimum. Tube amps are less tolerant of mismatches.

If it's an 8 ohm 2x12, the typical config is to put two 16 ohm speakers in parallel.

Re: Any good 4 ohm 50W speakers you guys know of?

SS pre-amp, tube power. Silly system I know. It's the first SS amp I've ever owned.

It's a 4 ohm 2x12. So what speakers would you recommend putting in? Not brand neccesarily, but what configuration?

Re: Any good 4 ohm 50W speakers you guys know of?

I think you need two 8 ohm speakers hooked in parallel which will make the load 4 ohms.
Everyone raves about Weber speakers.

And BTW...no question in dumb. This is why we are here, to educate!

I think...

Im not 100% sure what you are doing yet but I have a good feeling that you need 2 speakers that are a total of 4 ohms. If that is the case then you need 2 8 ohm speakers.

What is the pre amp and power amp set up you are using?

What kind of tone are you looking for?

What is your budget?

Two 8 ohm speakers? Awesome! Thanks!

Pre Amp - SS
Power Amp - 2 6L6's
Tone - Anything decent, I'm more a "tone from guitar" guy, that is until I can afford a truly decent amp
Budget - For 2 speakers used, under $150, preferably much less.

You can get a lot of speaker for 75 used. There's a guy on The Gear Page selling 8 ohm Celestion Classic 80s for 65 each shipped. Those also happen to be my fave speakers. :)

I would assume that is the deal, what are the make and model of the pre nd pwer amp in question?

Alec mentioned those 2 Celestions...if I were you I'd grab those...you'll have a 4 ohm load and a power rating of 160 watts and they are gonna be under your $150 budget!
