Any good luthiers hang around in here?

I need a repair done and I'm not quite sure if it's feasible?

I have a body that has a recessed floyd....I want it completely filled in and rerouted..

^ that's not really the problem...I really don't want to paint to paint this guitar a solid color so....


Would it be possible to have a veneer inlaid over the filled area and then have the pickups and bridge rerouted ????

If it's a bolt-on neck, I'd think you'd get better results for less money by buying a new body.

Don't want to do that, this body is insanely killer, so I'd rather just repair it.

I have seen some repairs done to 70's era Strats where they have removed a Floyd rout and returned it to stock.... In the 80's everyone started to damage what are now collectable guitars by adding Floyds. I have seen some extremely good paint touch ups.... I have seen repairs to both sunbursts and solid colour strats like this. Some you can see the different wood and some you can hardy tell until it is pointed out. There is a great Shop in Toronto that could do this repair but i imagine you are not near T.O.

I also have seen a few 70's Les Paul Deluxes that had the Mini Humbuckers routed out to full size humbuckers and then returned to the minis after... They have to fill in some wood and do finnish touch ups and one Red Sunburst LP Pro i saw was horrible looking after the repair. It had been moddified with 3 full size humbuckers and then returned to the 2 stock mini humbuckers.... They wrecked that guitar...

The body is very killer, it would be great if he could just get it repaired. Nice quilt top.

It's do-able. It'll be expensive though. And it would always look "differant" in that area regardless of how skillfully the job was done. Personally, I wouldn't do it. It's very hard (impossible?) to apply a veneer and get it level and looking right without sanding and refinishing the whole top.

Blueline or John John may be able to help with this. If not contact Mirabella Guitars @ www.mirabellaguitars.com. If you Email a photo he will be able to give you an idea of how much and how long it will take. Wattage and Xcessive have both had a lot of work done by him. Cris is a very close frind of mine and IMO he does some of the best restoration work I have seen!
