Any good solid-state amp recommendations? Current offerings or out of production?

Re: Any good solid-state amp recommendations? Current offerings or out of production?

Also check out the vox mv's and the new fender champion 50xl. Also the orange crush series!

Re: Any good solid-state amp recommendations? Current offerings or out of production?

Looking to possibly pickup a solidstate amp as a backup to my tube setup and to use as a grab and go jam rig. Having said that, what are your recommendations? I'm open to new or used, have a $300 budget, and also would need it to have onboard effects (various amp models would be nice as well).

If I had to pick one, I'd say the Peavey Bandit. If I had two, it would be a Peavey Bandit and the Roland JC-120 with some kind of A/B arrangement.

:smoker:

My vintage Polytone Mini Brute is one sought after
unit if you can find one - most owners won't part
with theirs .
George Benson for one has always used them .
Mellow warm tone and plenty of RNR edge too .

  1. Still in use - 95 watts RMS @1% THD
  2. 3 HZ channels ( mono )
  3. X2 cabs with a 10" & 8" driver
:headbang:
I love it - great sound for my electric bass ,
electric and acoustic guitars and vocal/harp
Compact small and light weight too . Hooked
into my MFX uit it sounds fantastic .

This gets cremated with me when I go .

Sunn Beta Lead combo. You’ll never need louder. Other than a decent reverb, no onboard effects.

Re: Any good solid-state amp recommendations? Current offerings or out of production?

People keep mentioning the Roland JC-120. While it is a great amp it is way outside the OPs budget, they go for about a grand. Even the JC - 40 will set you back $600. The requirements the OP gave scream Fender Mustang III.

Cube
Katana
Blackstar ID series

All those

EDIT
DIEGO SAYS NOT THE BLACKSTAR and he would know

I've got a JC-50 and it was about $275. I think I'll be lucky to get $225-250 when I go to sell it, now that they have those smaller ones out.

Re: Any good solid-state amp recommendations? Current offerings or out of production?

Lots of the obvious good ones covered already.

Roland/Boss figured out how to make a great Solid State amp first and always -anything by them should be considered first

Someone mentioned Tech21 on here -I love their preamp stuff -so I imagine their amps are great.

I thought LabSeries was the original pro SS guitar amp ;)

Tech21 gets a lot of praise indeed. Always wanted to try one of their trademark amps, but just not enough to pay for it. They go for a really cheap price though.

That's quite cheap. Never seen JC amp on sale for over 1000 here either. Plenty for 700-900 € though. Prices here are that much higher generally that you can practically count it 1 = 1 conversion to dollars.

I think you will be all set with resale. The JC 40s have two tens. A lot of people search out the JC 50 because of the portability and single 12. I actually think you could go $300 - 350 on the amp depending on the condition.

Yeah, I own 2 Tech 21 amps. They sound great on their own, but also really shine when used direct to the PA or to a recording device. It is the closest I've heard either SS, analog or digital modeling get to the 'feel' of a tube amp.

Re: Any good solid-state amp recommendations? Current offerings or out of production?

I have a Laney GC80A
It's a 90s model solid state amp
I like how it sounds
But its dang near as heavy as a Twin

The single HH speaker gets some flak but I think that thing sounds great

If I may say so, I suggest you ditch the Blackstar ID series from any serious recommendation, man.

I've got an ID Core 40 head and the Insider software is virtually useless in Windows 10, glitchy as hell and Blackstar dropped the ball with it ages ago. A quick look at the Blackstar ID forum reveals a ****load of complaints with no official answers since 2016 or something. So you can't adjust it, basically.

It's the first and last software-dependant piece of guitar gear I'll ever buy, I hope.

Re: Any good solid-state amp recommendations? Current offerings or out of production?

So, is the OP looking for a modeling amp or an analog solid state amp, 2 very different things to me.

And so it shall be
May I substitute a Vox modeling amp instead?

I think he said he wanted models and built in effects in Post #1

That's why I glazed over the Bandit and Laney SS offerings

With this cash limit
Models
Effects

I would still say the VIP2 or VIP 3 used
