I would be interested in finding out the name of any amplifier plugins that you can buy and put on a dry, unprocessed track and get your amp distortion and other effects that way. I'm thinking of recording sending two tracks into Reaper, one processed and one dry and unprocessed and using a plugin on the dry, unprocessed track.
I tried two of them many years ago (Amplitube and Guitar Rig) and they both sounded scratchy and crappy. Maybe they have improved since then.
