Any info on the NX-3? (Help)

Hi, I posted on the Washburn site but thought it would be better to also post it here (for a sort of less biased answer).

So, today I walked in a guitar shop and saw what I was told was a Washburn NX-3.

(As some will know) I've been looking for a new guitar for a while now and although I wanted a 24-fretted one that weird neck joint (later found to be the "Stephens extended cutaway 5-bolt neck joint" looked mighty tempting so I gave it a try.

It had the (read: the) best neck I have ever tried on a guitar, amazing sustain, very comfortable bridge (Floyd Rose) and sounded almost too good for its' stock W pus (even with the push/pull it had).
However It was priced for 628 euros (about 825$) list price and 565 cash (about 742$).

The guitar looked brand new, according to the sales person just came out of the box a while ago (some hours or maybe a couple of days max, brand-new strings, perfect tuning etc), so you can imagine my surprise when I found out that it was discontinued 4 years ago!!!

-First of all I really cannot understand why it got discontinued. So I would really appreciate it if anyone had any heads-up. (Any strange quirks or sth that it has)
-Secondly, I read that at the end they went for no more than 300$ so I obviously am wondering if it is worth the price they ask (more than twice the list price).
-Finally, what is the closest model Washburn still makes?
Being the closest to that neck, (dimensions, width and height of frets, the fretboard etc) being my biggest concern.

I can't tell myself since I can't find its' specs anywhere (help on that would also be great!)

Any info, opinion or just saying something (relevant) will be well appreciated!!!

CheerS!!!

Bump, come on guys, can it be that no-one has ever at least played it or know sth about it???

It was a cheap korean made copy of the Nuno N-4. I remember they sold for $700, then it got discontinued and the online stores cleared them out for $300. The body was made of some mystery "hardwood".

Washburn still mades the N4 which is better. If you cannot afford a new one look on ebay for a used one.

Actually I pretty easily found it to be Alder...

The Specs I found are:

Solid Alder body
WB630 HH Pickups
22 fret Maple neck w/rosewood fingerboard
Stephens extended cutaway 5-bolt neck joint
Spanish Luthier's headstock joint
Floyd Rose locking trem
Exclusive Grover 18:1 gear ratio tuners
Chrome hardware
14 pitch-angled headstock
Buzz Feiten Tuning System™

What I didn't find and want to know is the neck and fretboard specs...
Are they the same as the N4?

The NX-3 is well within my budget, the N4 doesn't even come close...
Do you think it's worth it or should I go for sth else...

Thanks!!!

I think you should buy it if it sounds good. I've always been a fan of the N4 and the NX3 and NX6 are very close spec-wise to it. They share the share headstock (tho the NX is reversed), Stephen's Extended cutaway and body shape. Pickups were obviously different (the NX6 has SD's in it I think).

I'm not too sure if the neck is the same on teh NX and N models, but I think Washburn discontinued them because they were too close to the N4 models. I remember the NXs being blown out for cheap when they got discontinued, but since the closest you'll get nowadays is the N2 (alder body, floyd, standard neck joint, no Buzz Feiten and stock pickups) or the N4 (the daddy, but very expensive daddy) then I suggest you haggle a bit, make sure you want it and like the sound, then bite the bullet.

Hey, we're at the SD forums, what are the chances of actually keeping the pus once I have the cash and pinned the guitar's natural tone down?

As long as it feels good in my hands and has decent woods then that's enough!

Alder body, maple neck/fretboard, how different can it possibly be tonally to my strat? (Ok, it definitely wont' be the same, but it wont be something altogether different either...)...

So, do you think that it's a good guitar for the money? (maybe a little haggle will be in order but apart from that...)

Re: Any info on the NX-3? (Help)

Well, I'm not sure what music you're into or the sound you're looking for, but a HB loaded superstrat is always a good choice :) I think they're good for the money if you think it's right for you. Just take into account resale won't be great if you don't like it, plus don't pay too much attention to MF blowouts - the US always get the best deals :( And defintely haggle! Around 500 euros should be ok - just tell'em it must have been sitting round for a while to be in newish condition. Do him the favour and take it off his hands :D

Sorry, written it so many times I forgot!

80's Metal mostly. Traditional Heavy, NWoBHM, Heavy/Power (Savatage), Power (Helloween) and the various Hair/Glam/Poser bands like Pretty Maids, White Snake, Ten, Firehouse, Skid Row, Dokken etc.

I could use a H-S-S combo but I figure with the coil-tap it'll give me plenty of versatility...

Gonna go to the main shop of the chain (they also are the official Washburn dealer for Greece) and see what I can do.

Thanks man!
