Any Love for the Ibanez RG 1570 Prestige?

Man, I played one at Sam Ash yesterday and really liked it.

I'm super picky and am hardly ever impressed with guitars I play at the big superstores, but this one had been setup and intonated and played fantastic right off the wall. The Edge Pro even stayed in tune.

Made in Japan by Team J Craft. At $800, I'd say it was a great deal.

Anybody else love the RG Prestige series?

Dunno man, before trying them I really liked Ibanezs RGs but after trying from the most basic "real" Ibanez to perhaps the most expensive of the prestige line (yes, including the 1570) I've yet to find one I could bond with...

It could be our dealer (who knows NOTHING about guitars and thus has 2000€ guitars sitting with the strings and setup they came with from the factory) though...

I had and Evo and PAF Joe set laying around so I bought one of these for the pups.

Nice guitar and a good price, it really has the "Ibby/Dimarzio" sound that takes me straight back to the 80s.

I can't say a bad word about it, except that I didn't like the stock pups much (not horrible, but there is so much better out there).

Re: Any Love for the Ibanez RG 1570 Prestige?

About 7 years ago I came across an old RG550DX for chump change and grabbed it. I played the heck out of the thing and it served me well. After a bit my tastes had changed and I let it go.

It kind of bothered me now and again.

Totally randomly some ill-described Ibanez RG showed up on the local CraigsList. The guy took forever and was kinda flaky about the whole deal. I didn't really pay that much attention to it and just kind of plugged away dealing with the flake in small doses. I was almost ready to just bag the whole thing until an hour before we were supposed to meet when he told me the neckplate said "Bensalem, PA."

That night I cleaned up a real-deal RG770. I remember ogling those in the Ibanez catalogs back in the day and never thinking I could afford one. Funny part is that for the price I got it I could have afforded it back then. The guy was selling it for his girlfriend (she came along for the deal...it wasn't sold out from underneath her) and she got it from some guy in the 90's that she said had an endorsement deal with them.

I've contemplated building another pickguard for it. The stock pickups are good but I would really love to hear it with a PAF Pro in the neck and a Tone Zone in the bridge. I grab it when I need a break from the Les Pauls and it's a nice diversion.
