any Marshall 1987x owners out there?

THE DUG

hello, anyone have experience with this amp?i know what they sound like but how is it as far as breaking down, being reliable?I played a used one the other day and now ive got gas!I havent pulled the trigger only because Ive heard people slam marshalls on being prone to break down.Ive only owned one other but it was an jcm800 it did ok for me but i only had it for a couple months.I play gigs almost every weekend and do some light touring so it would have to stand up to that.plus practice twice a week.Ive always owned boogies and have had no problems ever, but I ve heard people slam them too, maybe it is specific amps? and not marshall as a whole?thanks!

There's no reason why it should break down any more than other amps; it's a high end valve amp, and those reissues are built well. People don't half talk BS about amps sometimes spouting totally unfounded generalisations to make themselves look knowledgeable. There was a problem with some output transformers in the modern DSL range, and that's about it; the kids at guitar center thus label every single Marshall as unreliable.

yeah those kids at GC:dunce:, Ive seen threads about output transformers and the like being ****.I figured if folks were gonna drop 1000+ and it was crap I would have seen more complaints.

Well, even if the 1987x took a crap on you - they are like a 65 Mustang under the good - no crazy microchips. ANY tech can fix it and make it roadworthy.

I rather liked those amps. If you egt it at the right price it is special, bc you can mod it to death - anything from new transformers to caps to gain stages. You can keep it a lifetime and milk new sounds out of it from year to year. Stock, it sounds mighty good. I do recommend a hot plate btw
