Any mods for a Duncan Distortion?

Re: Any mods for a Duncan Distortion?

I have shortened the poles which tightens it up. I tried Dimarzio hex's but the sound got too thin.

Try putting an A5 magnet into it.

this, if you like the JB (IIRC the distortion is just a JB with a ceramic magnet...)

I say put an A8 in it! or an A2....

or if you have another pickup... make a hybrid!

i'd suggest the hybrid thing if you've got another medium output bridge pickup, something like a screamin' demon or a custom, or even a DD neck!

Re: Any mods for a Duncan Distortion?

hex heads are worth a try, i've got that happening on a DD at the moment and it does thin it out a bit but it's good for cleans

and +1 on the hybrids. can vouch for it making awesome hybrids with a custom; i'd also like to try a 59b or a PGb at some stage...

speaking of poles...

I just put my DD into a '94 Les Paul standard, replacing the JB (which replaced the APH which replaced the Rio Grande BBQ :eyecrazy: ). This guitar is very deep sounding and somewhat dull accoustically, and from recording tests this pickup sounds like just the right thing.

But I noticed that this thing shipped with the poles unscrewed more than any other SD's I've ever bought. All others (JB, CC, APH) have had the poles nearly flush with the top. But DD's heads are nearly fully showing.
Is this a sign from Seymour ? Like this is how the pickup is designed to sound?

I always end up tweaking poles a little bit with every pickup anyway, but I was just curious about anyone elses.
Were your pole screws flush, or raised? And did you just leave it?
