Any news regarding Dino Cazares' "Machete" pickup???

Hey all,

I know Dino a while ago announced this new signature active pickup - the "Machete" - when he unveiled his signature Ormsby guitars. But I'm curious if ANYONE has any news regarding it - mainly if they're available finally, and how they compare to his "Retribution" and all the other Blackouts...

I'm snagging another 1st gen ESP LTD AW-7, and am going to be looking for something to seriously brighten this guitar up... I would like to consider the Machete among the few others I have picked out, but there hasn't really been anything more about it since the announcing of the guitar...

So does anyone have any further details on and about this one??? Can Evan or anyone from Duncan give us more details, including pricing and availability???

Thanks!

Was this model supposed to be available outside of his signature guitar? Or was it specific to that instrument? I remember hearing about it, but don't know the details.

I had asked Dino about it, and he said that it would be available from Duncan as a normal production model...

Lol, when I talked to Dino after a show he said about three words to me. I understand not wanting to talk to gear nerds but come on, there were only a few hundred people there total.

This was the latest about it from Dino, back in August... nothing really said about it since, but we know how things change between now and then...

Keep in mind that with the restrictions in California, things might get pushed back a few weeks.

It says on what you posted that right now it is only available on his signature Ormsby guitars...

That was back at the end of August though... I knjw the oandemichas been affecting everything everywhere, but curious if this was finally moving to a normal production model...

So it's a blackout preamp built into the base of something with DiMarzio aesthetics

A re-tweaked Blackouts preamp on what looks like a Full Shred or an Omega 7...

And essentially, a hotter version of the Duality active...

Looks like it's a follow on to the duality series.

I wouldn't doubt it... I wonder how different it is compared to the Retribution... plus the flat black bobbins & hex bolts making it look like a Full Shred I think is more appealing appearance wise.

But I'm sure the coil winds, magnets and the preamp on these are way different than a Duality...

Well, logically, the pickup is not going to be identical to the "Duality" in every way, but just like there were several versions of "Blackouts", this appears to be based on the Duality preamp tech.

Part of the selling point in SD's early marketing for the Duality series was that magnets could be swapped, etc. and it would make sense to have the coils custom-tuned for a specific sound/purpose. That said, I'm gonna laugh my butt off if this is just a 7-string version of the Duality with a ceramic mag and sexier pole pieces :D

What if it's a 7 string Distortion with different pole pieces and the Duality pre amp?

Of course its not going to be identical to the Duality, its going to be seriously tweaked in multiple ways - coils & windings, polepieces, preamp tuning and tweaking... ButnI wouldn't say its based on the Duality preamp circuitry, but more the Duality series as a whole... Essentially, The Duality series is no different than the EMG RetroActive series in the same regards. And pickups like the new Jim Root Daemonum pickups are IMO whats driving companies like Seymour Duncan to push further in their lineups as well. And for Duncan, the Machete is proof of that.

But no, I think the Machete is a different version of the Duality on the same format and platform. Like I said, differentlt tweaked and tuned coils and preamp will be the 2 main key differences, to start.

Highly doubt it... Seymour Duncan certainly didn't do that with Mick Thomson, or Jeff Loomis, or Dave Mustaine for any of thier signature model pickups... Fishman hasn't with guys like Stephen Carpenter, Devin Townsend, Will Adler, Tosin Abasi, Keith Merrow... EMG hasn't for guys like Kirk Hammett, James Hetfield, Jim Root, Glen Tipton, Steve Lukather... And same with DiMarzio for guys like Vai, Satriani, Petrucci, Gilbert...

I mean sure, a select few of the above mentioned have thier signatures that are still pretty closely based to a stock production model pickup (Mustaine's Live Wire set for example...), but most everyone else's has been a whole new thing since inception... Hell, Devin Townsend is the one responsible for getting 7-string players an active single coil on the market... He worked with EMG to finally get the SA-7 out as a production model - which that too started off as an exclusive pickup to his signature guitar at the time (the 7-string V that he had with Peavey IIRC...).

PLUS... There was supposed to be a 6-string, 7-string & 8-string versions of this as well, last I remember hearing... I can't remember if Dino said that it was an actual set for both bridge and neck, or primarily the bridge for the time being...
