Any of you have a Marshall JCM-900?

Re: Any of you have a Marshall JCM-900?

The amp is not known for it's bass response regardless. And I'm not gonna drive another 60 miles to have him re-adust it. You can't change the enclosure either. It's way too small. I could have put in different model tubes to try to get some bass back and even have him go into the insides and change some electrical values but why invest even more money into doing mods that are not gonna make me totally happy anyway? And there are no refunds on tubes or labor I might add just because you don't like the sound of it after the mods.

My Valvestate delivered the goods right off the bat with no mods whatsoever.

Maybe you should return using that. if something works - that works ;)

Happy SL-X user here, anyway. Not the bassiest amps around, but those mids... Yum...

Re: Any of you have a Marshall JCM-900?

Bass doesn't come just from the amp, it's in the cabinet it's used with as well. I admit, open-back combos are not the bassiest things out there, and they shouldn't be. Leave the rumbles to the bass player. Our bass player asked me if I could back it off a bit at the last gig and it was at 4 on the dial. A lot of it has to do with my Avatar 2x12 with Celestion CL80's.

That's a real valid point and I agree.

All the same, I hope you kicked your bass player in the stomach for being such a puss. :D

Anyway, backing off the bass knob a littlebit is the key for sounding good as a band. ;)

That goes hand in hand with the thread about Dimebag's tone...he was more about the whole band sound than a perfected stand alone tone.

LOL....Nah. He and I are on the same side of the stage so we need to live in harmony there.

JCM 900? Well, it would be my favorite amp but it has one major flaw...it's not JCM800 :)

Re: Any of you have a Marshall JCM-900?

does anyone know if you can run the pre-amp of a JCM900 50W hi-gain dual reverb in series (ie gain mod)? i was looking to mod mine but i'm starting to lean towards picking up a nasty old fender and just running the v-twin through it instead. running the v-twin through the marshall doesn't work for me, the voicings are too different
