Any of you use a tremolo pedal much?

I've been wanting to build a pedal from buildyourownclone and always thought tremolo efffects sound kind of cool.

Anyone use one regularly?

Re: Any of you use a tremolo pedal much?

I dig the built-in tremolo on my fender showman. I wanted the same effect on my KRANK, so I'm in the process of building a BYOC tremolo.

Might get it done today, the board's populated, the case is assembled, all it needs is to be wired up. I'll let ya know what I think ;).

Yeah, let us know! I was going to buy one a few months ago for a winter project but kind of forgot about it when I got my amp in December. Now I'm ready for a project.

If I don't get a Fender amp with trem then I'll be buying a Danelectro Tuna Melt and rehousing it. Square and Triangle wave trem for $40, and it sounds great. I'd buy the BYOC kit if it had a mod for Square wave, but it doesn't. It's a good effect, definitely worth it.

That.. Build your Own Clone Trem pedal looks like it would be sweet. And I'm looking to start electronics work.. so it couldn't hurt. Hmm.

A'ite...I just wired up that tremolo pedal and gave it a test run.

It was a little noisy when I first plugged it in, but that was because I didn't have the trimpot set yet. Once the trimpot is set, its as quiet as a mouse. The blinking LED in there is a nice touch as well.

I can't say that I've had all too much experience with tremolo pedals in the past. Like I said, all I've got to go from is the tremolo on my 68' showman reverb.

I'm hesitant to compare the two at the moment, as I still need to play around with em and A/B em a bit more. But right off the bat, I'm very impressed with this pedal. From a subtle little waver to a fast chop...it sounds great.

This is the last of 6 pedals I've built from BYOC boards. I sourced all the parts myself for these...which ended up saving some money in the long run. All but one came out great. The one that didn't come out great was a phase 90 clone, and the reason it didn't come out great is because I didn't match the JFETs :smack:.

BYOC is highly recommended in my book ;).

Re: Any of you use a tremolo pedal much?

I've tried a couple of tremolo pedals. None of them ever seemed to work out for me.

Maybe it's just an old fashioned mind-set thing on my part, but tremolo to me is an effect that needs to come last in the effect chain.

Well maybe not. The best tremolo effect I've ever heard was on an old gibson amp and it was in parallel with the reverb effect - in other words, the tremolo affected the regular signal, but the reverb signal was constant or unaffected by the tremolo modulation. You could also switch the tremolo to a vibrato or combine both into a "vibrola" effect.

For the life of me I can't remember the name of the amp. It was solid state.

But the reverb mix being constant and apart from the modulated tremolo/vibrato signal - wow, it was a great sound.

I use my trem pedal at select times, it's always a blast to use! I really like my Red Witch Pentavocal Trem. It cuts through the mix really well and you can get a wide variety of tones out of it. I usually like the choppier square style stuff for the cleans and for overdrive I use one of the softer waves for a little extra definition. Since I can footswitch between choppy and soft, I don't have to compromise by having to pick one over the other.

YUP, love trem !!!

Kinda hard to do the Cramps, RATM, and any other Psychobilly without it !

Boss trem is NOT as bad as some folks make it out to be, but i still prefer either of the EHX Units = Wiggler or Pulsar !

WIGGLER - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ElectroHarmonix-The-Wiggler?sku=153320

PULSAR - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...tereo-Pulsar-Tremolo-Effects-Pedal?sku=150127

VOODOOLAB - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Voodoo-Lab-Tremolo-Pedal?sku=153502

MARSHALL - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-VT1-Vibratrem-Pedal?sku=150301 - very underrated Vibrato & Trem in one !

Hope this helps !

Re: Any of you use a tremolo pedal much?

I use the tremolo on my 65 Deluxe non-reverb amp once in a while.. i don't have a footswitch for it yet... The amp is all original except there was no footswitch included.

But i use a Boss Tremolo pedal a fair bit.... mostly for ON/OFF type sounds..... in fact once i figure out how to hook it up to a keyboard it should be able to do the backing track to The Who's WGFA.... i also use it for the backing track to Who Are You.....

But i also use the more vintage trem settings for stuff like CCR's Born On The Bayou.....

Re: Any of you use a tremolo pedal much?

I have a Marshall VibraTrem which I use every once in a while. It's a really cool effect, and I still want an Electro-Harmonix Pulsar.

Re: Any of you use a tremolo pedal much?

I have a Boss Tremolo, and have no complaints. I got it because a lot of players get a great sound with trem - John Leventhal, Johnny Marr, some of the 'billy guys, but I just don't get it when I play. I need more time to sort it out.

Hey, SirJackdeFuzz: Have you heard the Dillingers? They're an instrumental "surfabilly/cowpunk/crimejazz" band from Florida, on Steve Vai's Favored Nations record label. Listening to their album, you'd swear it was a tortured old Fender amp, but he uses a Keeley modded TR-2 plus a bunch of other pedals into a pair of Classic 30's. Their guitarist Rich Rossano posted a review of the modded TR-2 on Harmony Central. They are extremely cool.
