I'm trying to capture Joan Jett sound and I'm looking for a pickup that will spun exactly like or at least similar to Red Rhodes Velvet Hammer that she use in her Gibson Melody Maker.
Pickup will be in Gibson SG.
I prefer something w coil splitting.
Any suggestions ?

Just get a 59. The rest is attitude and a Marshall set to Gnarly.

From what I'm reading, that's a strange pickup to match. Red was a steel player. My understanding is his humbuckers were based on two '54' Fender pickup coils side by side (e.g. telecaster, stringmaster, etc.). Maybe a Duncan Stag Mag might be similar? (I have not owned or used one. Try to find someone who's used it to find out what it sounds like.)

Also, FWIW, Joan Jett's signature Melody Maker model is using a Burstbucker 3 (which is a 7.75K Alnico 2 overwound PAF, unbalanced coils, no wax potting), though she does not play one. A Duncan SH-55 Seth Lover bridge model is the closest to this, followed by an APH-1 Alnico 2 Pro bridge model or an SH-2 Jazz neck model.

Also Joan Jett uses Mesa Boogie Mark 3 head going into a Vox AC30 cabinet.

Fine - just get a Pearly Gates to split the Seth/A2P/Jazz differences. The rest is attitude and a Marshall set to Gnarly.

I'm with Aceman. More attitude than anything.

The 498t in your Gibson SG with the volume slightly backed off won't get it?
