Any reason why maple neck + flody rose + HSS not a popular option?

Re: Any reason why maple neck + flody rose + HSS not a popular option?

many of my old Charvels for the late 70s were HSS with FR trems and maple necks.

maybe its just too "old school" for todays kids?

I was thinking the same. I guess shreders (who use FR a lot) are more into metal and prefer dark/black guitars. Do they think they carry an AK-47 or whant? hahaha

Re: Any reason why maple neck + flody rose + HSS not a popular option?

"Maple neck" and "Maple fretboard" are two different things, so the "dark/black" comment doesn't make any sense.

Aside from that, yeah, I'm not seeing the sense in having an all-black stage setup (some have even inquired repeatedly about black-coated strings and black frets). I mean, why go out in public if you don't want to be seen?
Drop off a CD with the DJ and go home.

i had a hss floyd strat with a maple neck that was my main guitar from like 94/5? till the early 2000's. it was a mij hrr 50's model in purple fotoflame yeah baby

came stock with a paf pro bridge pup but i loaded it up with emg sv/sv/81 with a pa2 and spc as soon as i got it. kicked so much ass. with everything full up the thing had so much output i could overdrive the front end of a hiwatt into saturation

It's really difficult to imagine you as this guy, because your beardy pic with the hat and the telecaser that I've been seeing next to your posts for years makes it look more like you fell out the open side of an empty freight car to cook canned beans over a trash fire.

I mean I know you don't shave, but if you did, I would think it would be with a broken corn liquor bottle by the reflection of a resonator cone. :D

Exactly what you're talking about. So it's not unpopular with me! That's a JB in the bridge, and Classic Stack Plus in the other two positions. And my own customised black and yellow volume knob!

LUST!!
WANT!!

Outstanding.

Re: Any reason why maple neck + flody rose + HSS not a popular option?

Carvin could do you up something, one of their Bolt models would fit the bill. Sadly, the Contour 66 models do not come in HSS configurations. The Ibanez At100CL is also an option, but uses a WIlkinson tremolo unit and not a Floyd ROse. I think the Dean Din Man (Vinnie Moore) signature guitar is actually ALder body with maple top and entire maple neck with HSS setup and a floyd rose. I'd check those out, but they're pricey.

Suhr would also be an option, but also pretty expensive.

Freakin' sweet :friday:.

Re: Any reason why maple neck + flody rose + HSS not a popular option?

i own many HSS strats and strat styles, and love that set up... and ya the volume differences between JB's and most single coil strat PU's can be a pain... but in general i like neck strat PU's for that bluesy SRV and Hendrix type tones and a bridge humbucker for more the EVH type tones... i hardly switch between PU's when i'm playing... i pick one and go for it...

i may try an SSL-5 in the neck with a JB in the bridge.... Charvel does this on the Hardtail ProMod strat... and i like that Charvel a lot... just got to order the SSL-5 reverse wound for the H/S set up...

I absolutely love the yellow guitar man. This is definitely the one to die for! It is so meee...I am going to build one like that actually, but in natural finish, and either in H-H or H-S configuration. Something like these Charvels

Re: Any reason why maple neck + flody rose + HSS not a popular option?

The Fender Sambora signature Stratocaster was maple neck, FR, HSS. Perhaps, this explains something? :scratchch

Re: Any reason why maple neck + flody rose + HSS not a popular option?

Most of the Floyd guys that I know favor single coils in the neck versus humbuckers, but that's just my personal experience.

Re: Any reason why maple neck + flody rose + HSS not a popular option?

I personally like maple fretboard only when it hasn't worn out. I'm okay with dinged and stained body wear but not the case for fretboard. I like it to be clean and sleek. I also almost never use a middle pickup so H-S still win it for me. As for why it doesn't popular anymore, it's always related with market demand and sales.

The american was SSS/maple and the standard was HSS/rosewood. I know because I own the standard (with me since 1998!!). Back then I did not even know about the effect of different woods/pickups/bridges.

By the way I installed a Custome Stack STK-S6 (the stacked version of the SSL-5) in the and it is loud/thick enough to match the JB. Some others in the forum told me a YJM Fury does a good match too so I will try it soon.

Re: Any reason why maple neck + flody rose + HSS not a popular option?

I have an ash/maple Floyderised HSS Strat that I built from Warmoth parts. I solved the 250K/500K pot thing by wiring a 500K resistor in parallel with a 500K volume pot on the single coil positions on the 5-way, and then leaving the pot at 500K for the humbucker position.

It's a great setup but then I did specifically build it for 80s sounds.
