Any SD-1 love?

Re: Any SD-1 love?

I use a Bad Monkey and really like it. I can cover everything from breakup to british blues to Early Sabbath with the thing.

I love the SD-1, mine has a siamese-twin box on the side with switches for stock, 6/4 Mullard OC44, 8/7 Mullard OA10 and for real loud stuff a red/green LED set up. But, as several have said already, it has to be feeding tubes to really work - it's an Overdrive rather than a Distortion pedal.....

I just retired the Monkey off my board in favor of the coffin Blood drive. M.F. was blwing them out. The selling point was true bypass as I only need the OD for a couple of songs. I ain't selling the Bad Monkey... Stlll a keeper of a pedal and a great bang for the buck.

Re: Any SD-1 love?

I picked up an SD-1 a few months ago for a song and it's great as it is pushing any of my Marshalls, especially my 2203.

I'm considering the C6 removal to try.

It's my second go-to box after my ratherdashing modded TS-7.

Re: Any SD-1 love?

I love that you can mod them to so many different pedals - Right now mine's at tubescreamer specs, but I found guides on diystompboxes.com to modify it to Lovepedal eternity specs, clay jones specs, and monte allums sells two kits for it - the GT and the 808 kit. I'm gonna try it w/ clay jones specs and a few different clipping circuits next, but this is a great pedal stock as well. I do like the way the os-3 sounds too though.

Boss has some very underrated, very versatile pedals. I'd still like to try the BD-2 someday.

As far as Overdrive pedals from Boss....The OD-3 is the only I ever really liked.

My current SD-1 Eternity comes from Brian Wampler at IndyGuitarist.com. Here's a link to his paper on the subject. It's become my favorite OD ever, displacing even the BB Preamp.

Allums' GT is a great mod. I want to get another one of those. And a stock one, maybe with just a C6 mod. You can get carried way with SD-1s. Same for DS-1s.

Different birds, the YJM is closer to the MXR Distortion +. What kind of sound are you looking for and what kind of guitar/amp are you using?

I love old SD-1s, I have a MIJ one that I stupidly modded alot a few years ago. Sounds great modded, but the MIJ ones sounded great stock too. I haven't tried a MIT one, but I may pick one up to mod as a backup.

For the price, it's hard to go wrong with the SD-1 or the DS-1 to push an already overdriven amp. Not sure I would use one as my sole source of distortion though.

I don't think the YJM sounds like a distortion Plus at all, it is an overdrive/boost, not a distortion, check it out :
