Any thoughts on Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5?

Black Friday special half off. That still makes it a cool C-note. That's a lot for software. I've only really heard it through YouTube videos by PixxyLixxx. (Who has some sweet, but goofy, vids).

So, has anyone else here used it? I've got a nice Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 to play it through.

Thoughts?

While I haven't used it, I have used SGear, the demo version is free & full featured for 30days. I liked that a lot, some seem to be using it for gigging too, so seems a lot stable I guess. Oh & the delay & modulation that comes with it sounds wonderful. You could give that demo download a try before you buy GR5, it's alot easier to use too. I think I've seen posts from Lt.Kojack on it, he favors it i think.

I've tried both GR5 and Amplitube, and tone wise and tweak wise slightly favour amplitube over GR. I have this feeling that GR is less reactive to dynamics than amp'tube. however if u want to get going without the hassle of tweaking in odd places, GR has a very intuitive user interface. you can also go bonkers with cabinet simulation

I've got GR5 along with all my other NI stuff - I'm not sure I've ever tried it tbh - going to have to have a look now. I'm running through a Focusrite 18i6, so it should be pretty much as you'd be.

Re: Any thoughts on Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5?

I've got the demo version running right now, and I can't get any sound out of it, even though the meters are reacting. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've got the proper sound card selected.

Re: Any thoughts on Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5?

if the meter are reacting you have the focusrite pumping in stuff correctly. if u are getting the sound out of the soundcard, i suggest quit all media players or anything that might be using the soundcard. and then restart guitar rig and see. if ur soundcard uses ASIO4ALL as the ASIO driver click open its control panel (from the task bar) and make sure that audio output is not disabled. if it is that means some other software (sound making) is latching on to the sound card regular drivers.

Re: Any thoughts on Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5?

I didn't provide enough information. If I plug in the 2i2, everything works perfectly. But that means I have to plug headphones into the Scarlett. My soundcard outputs through a Proton preamp>Crown amp>Yamaha NS-1000M studio monitors. I'd kinda like to hear GR5 through that system. I don't understand why GR5 doesn't seem to see my soundcard. (Even though it's listed in the audio setup window.)

Re: Any thoughts on Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5?

Great support from the Native Instruments forum. A member walked me through the steps to get it working. I just ordered the full version. Can't wait to play with this. :)

Re: Any thoughts on Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5?

I used it just a cuple of times only but as far as I can go, I preferred Peavey ReValver much to GR or Amplitube.

Yeah. I get what you're saying. Right now, it's a toy. (An expensive toy.) But I'm going to play with it a bit and see how she pans out.
