Silly question but sometimes someone figured out a fast non intuitive method of doing something simple that makes you go 'crap I never thought of that!'. Mine are 60's and 70's style fluted type bushings for non collared machine posts and they are in tight. I gather using a tool to pull or push only one side applies uneven force causing it to want to tilt and lock itself in. So I was thinking thin long nose pliers to apply force to two opposed points of the bushing making it pop straight out? Any other ideas? Thanks!

Been there. Likely as not they were super glued in.You'll get chip outs removing them..even on the face fo the headstock. Save the chips and glue em back on.death to all pigs who use superglue on the nut or tuners (use 'Tightbond' and let it set).

One thing I wish't i would'a tried is "ACETONE" to dissolve the superglue that is applied to nuts and Loose tuner bushings by Neanderthals , before trying to jack them out with a punch or driver of some sort. Might have worked to prevent the chipouts I had with a very very costly neck.

yeah that sure sounds like a good idea. when i swap the bushings i'll have to see if they're glued in and try acetone if so.
i put new kluson revolution locking f tuners and h tuners on two different strats using the stock bushings; and they work fine together but the old bushings are ehhhver so slightly bigger than the new tuner posts so that the string tension causes a millimeter or less gap on the side of the post opposite the string pull. i figured i'd string up and have fun playing with the new tuners and next time i change strings i'd swap the old bushings with the new klusons. and it'd give me time to ask about how to get the old ones out since they felt locked in there. hopefully they're not epoxied in there by some Scythian barbarian of a Fender employee [emoji13]

Heating the bushing up with a soldering iron could prevent that. Glue softens when hot.
I do the same thing for frets that have been glued in. Beats gluing in small chips aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
