Any way to duplicate EBMM p-90 noise reduction?

Folks-
A few of you have kept up with my treads as I plan out a unconventional p-90 based warmoth project for this fall-

I can't tollerate noise and one of my unconventional plans has been to see if I can use the appropriate coil of a dual rail SC mid pup to cancel noise and also give me positions similiar to 2 and 4 on a strat- But I haven't proven to myself that an entirely dissimliar coil will actually do the noise canceling-

But I just remembered the Axis noise reducion circuit and wonder if this might be a better way to go- Does anyone know what this really is and if you can build one? Is it just a 60hz notch filter (which shouldn't catch other RF) or something really unusual?

If I could find someone to build me one, I would be a happy camper. I used to have an Axis w/mm-90s, and I though it was a brilliant idea. The "silent circuit" was some kind of a filter that had a pot built into it- tis attached to the output jack. The pot would allow you to adjust the sensitivity of the filter.

It does not. It is battery powered, but I noticed no differene with the batteries in, or taken out- except for the hum.

sounds good. its onboard electronics without any pots right?

I don't know if I'd call it "onboard electronics". It's a battery powered kind of output jack, but there are no circuit boards or anything. The battery wires to the output jack.

Thanks for the input guys, but I can't imagine how a battery by itself would do anything- are you sure it doesn't have a little circuit inline, or could the battery leads be going into another compartment?

For that matter I guess there could even be a little IC wrapped into the pup itself- Can you tell where the leads are going?

Back to opperation does it just get 60hz hum or does it catch all RF? Not expecting it to cancel noise when I'm right next to my monitor, but that and light balists are really good example of the noises I run into all the time-


One other thought..is this device pateneted? Dont think I've ever seen it noted that way, but think we could look up the circuit if it was-

Last b ut not leaset, has anyone heard of getting this device as an add on? I'm shooting a note to EBMM but not expecting the odds are very good-

Bill Lawrence is going to have out some completely noise free p90's in a few months. www.billlawrence.com. The original post detailing the release on their FIB forum was lost during a recent attack, but I hope they are out by the end of summer. I am sure I will buy a new P90 guitar for those.

I sold my Axis months ago, so I am ging on memory. I know there is no circuit board, the battery terminals connect to the filter on the output jack. I would post this question on the EB board. There has been some talk of replicating, but posts were not deleted so EB must be OK with it. There are a bunch of good guys over there and they will share their ideas and pics if you want them.

I've got the silent circut thing in my EBMM, and to tell the truth i typically end up leaving the battery out. It does seem to affect the tone in a very minute way, though i have to admit that i nit-pick a bit when it comes to tone. jus my 2 cents.

Strange, I didn't notice a thing...must not have been looking hard enough! Maybe it's more noticable with the lower output sinlges you have in the Silo?

SD makes hum cancelling P-90s as well as the Classic Stack Strat pickups, which are also hum cancelling.

Great tone, no hum. Seems like an easier way to go.

No input from the ebmm folks yet-

Robert S, very well may go this direction if I can't find more info on the direction I had planned- But have heard some comments that the humcanceling version of P90s sound significantly different-

Of course, even if they worked, I would expect noise canceling using an electric circuit or even the other coil of my center pup to have some negitive impact on the sound- But the reason I had hoped to go this direction is that I would have some control over the amount of impact caused by noise reduction, where I would only have what I have with a noise cancenling p90-

Probably a bit overkill and when it comes time to finshi up the plans and order parts, I very well may have gone back to a noise canceling p90-
