Funny, I had an Orange Crush 20, earlier gen with effects. I thought the cleans were great, for what they were. Chimey and twangy, with only a little bit of that bouncy cardboard tone, better than a lot I've experienced.

...The dirt channel was hilarious though; terrible. Had a *very* obvious blend with the clean channel at some settings, it was like hearing two guitars through two amps.

phantas man you sounded so death metal there and your leads were pretty slayer-esque, maybe the rhythm tone was a bit shy of high end, or it could be me not hearing the death metal swedish chainsaw tone there.....

Nah...it was dialed in pretty dark. Many amps would sound muddy/dull with that sort of bottom end/gain dialed in, but the Stonehead holds together great and sounds pretty mean/punchy/tight. There's a ton of treble on tap, if needed. As I said ..Pantera tone would be a breeze. I just prefer rounder/darker tones in general..always have. I guess that comes from playing in a Doom band for the last (almost) 25 years..many of those without a bass player :laugh2: ...and yeah..I like to cut loose with primal, ballsy Slayer leads from time to time haha I just wanted to highlight the Brutal side of the amp in that demo ..& I think I did that :headbang:

I want everyone, especially Phant, that I absolutely am not criticizing anyone here. It's not a question of better/worse. Stay with me for a sec...

I think there is a lesson in the previous exchange. I love and play heavy metal, but when I say that phrase, it refers to a kind of music that stopped being made around 1982. That's the metal I *love*. I *like* just alright a few things since then, like some Metallica, etc., but it may be shocking to some that I consider them to be sort of post/modern metal. I don't identify with anything in the thrash family, and *just as a joke* my first response to Phant's imbedded video above was that there was signal noise and the music hadn't started yet.

The point I'm really making, is that on these boards we talk about quality and products in bold terms: but we all have wildly different musical sensibilities. There is not wrong or right. I assure you that in his most capable days, Clapton couldn't play Thrash. And DD couldn't play Wonderful Tonight with the kind of touch a bluesman would appreciate. It doesn't make either good or bad, but it does makes sense that they are looking for VERY different things.

So I think that what Phant did, in including the recording, was make audibly clear what he wanted people to know, and I think that's awesome and effective. So many threads are full of, "that's garbage"; "this is the best". THIS exchange actually communicated the sound AND opinion AND context and left it to us to decide for ourselves.

lol...no problem..it still sounds golden to my ears haha. I like to try a LOT of different settings & tend to push the generally accepted tone boundaries a bit sometimes :lmao:

I'm mostly an 80's metal fan myself & have been for 30+ years. But always preferred the meaner/less polished/harder edged stuff..so bands like King Diamond/Crimson Glory/WASP/ Malice/Accept/Leige Lord/Vicious Rumors/Shok Paris/Savatage/Fates Warning/Riot/Warlock/Chastain besides the more obvious..Dio/Maiden/Saxon etc... rather than White Lion/Warrant/Europe/Bonjovi :laugh2:

I've also always like doom, thrash, death metal (and beyond..)

I post vid's at the drop of a hat..best way to get stuff across as you said .."It's a guitar forum, play your guitar" ..that's my logic lol...plus, they're fun to make..can't stop
