Anybody else hate shopping for pedals?

Re: Anybody else hate shopping for pedals?

Re-selling is the worst for boutique/obscure pedals. There are a number in my local classifieds that are priced high and haven't moved in months.
That tends to scare me away from buying those type of pedals at a new price, since I tend to end up flipping about 50% of the pedals I buy.

Re: Anybody else hate shopping for pedals?

I stopped buying pedals. Pretty much all I had has been sold. I have a few left but I don't use them much at all anymore. Heck, what I do have are ones I made myself. Mostly boosters.

Re: Anybody else hate shopping for pedals?

I'm pick'n up what you're putting down. I think if the guys out there that are making original designs would promote that more, there would be less confusion. That's a double edged sword though. As soon as that original design gets popular, people start copying it. Then you're back to "THE BEST TUBESCREAMER EVER" situation.

The only people that have to worry about cloners are the ones who are cloners themselves and lie about it or price their stuff ridiculously high so that a cheaper version becomes a desirable alternative.

If you make a good pedal no matter what it is, price it fairly, and don't make outrageous hyperbolic claims about it you really have nothing to fear.

People clone our stuff all the time. Mostly for personal builds but sometimes for resale. That's fine - those guys were never gonna buy from us anyway - they're in it for the challenge and fun of building/tweaking.

Re: Anybody else hate shopping for pedals?

How come people are talking only about clone companies when the boutique companies that come to mind being successful don't have $30 versions yet such as Wampler, Red Witch, any of the germanium fuzz guys (yeh mainly clones but clones that arent cheap to make), Strymon etc . And since when are dunlop, boss and ibanez much cheaper then the above mentioned brands. I like being able to have Joyo and Behringer stuff that works for me but claiming small builders are way overpriced compared to the big brands isnt that true (How much does an original CE-1 costs compared to a boutique clone, what about the Slow gear). People that steal a circuit literally and sell it as their own design is different but using quite simple circuits as a basis for a new design is how it works.
