Anybody ever buy a custom amp cover?

I've been looking to buy a cover for my "phony-vox" 13 Watter.

I requested quotes from five vendors I found online, four actually got back to me:

Custom Amp Covers, Inc.

J-L Covers

Studio Slips

Uncle Spot

The prices are all pretty much in line, and the web sites exude varying degress of professionalism. Tough choice.

Has anyone purchased covers from any of these outfits? Comments?

Yes, I have several Tuki covers, and I like them. I get the Cordura padded ones, and they offer better protection than a vinyl cover, though not as much as a flight case. They weigh next-to-nothing though, and flight cases can be a back-breaker.

If I were doing the rock 'n roll road show tours again, I would definitely be using flight cases (and roadies!!!!!) But for my weekend-warrior gigs, the Tuki covers do great. Look good, too.

Yeah, I don't use the backbreaking roadcases anymore. Tuki padded covers are the way to go. They offer durable and rugged protection, and the only catch is that you can't drop your amp.....but who does that?

I dropped my Twin down a flight of stairs once...

I took my amp cabs that I made down to a local place who makes boat tarps. I got heavy naugahyde and it was very reasonable!

gearjoneser,
i've got some serious GAS over those two paul reed smith's of yours, especially that teal black mcarty. how much did it cost and where did you get it?
also go to davesguitar.com and click on inventory and paul reed smith and look at the emerald green paul mcarty, it's just a beauty of an axe :)

How competitive was the price?

I'm dying to get a few covers made but when I look at the covers and realize that all it involves is sewing 4 peices of material together....

It's kinda like buying a pedalboard with me. Sure, I could plunk down the cash, but for a quarter of the money and a few evenings worth of work I can make myself something with much more style and more suited to exactly what I'm looking for it to do.

Got my amp covers from lecover.com

Tuki's good, too and I've heard good things about Studio Slips.

I had a boat cover guy make these... I supplied heavy military grade camo and he sewed'em together for $25 each. Each one has a custom pouch on the back to hold each head's footswitch and power cord- that was my idea. Overall, pretty cool and not too many people have desert camo amp covers! I am going to get every head and cab I own protected with these covers.

Re: Anybody ever buy a custom amp cover?

i have a flightcase for my head. the type that the front and back open so you don't have to ever remove the amp. also has 1 rack slot above the amp which i like. it's heavy but i think it's actually easier to carry with the case on it. has the recessed side handles so you can carry it comfortably with both hands instead of the one handle on the top of the head.

Re: Anybody ever buy a custom amp cover?

I just ordered a road case for my Bogner Shiva. My reason was it is actually easier to carry with a road case than with a cover. The road case has a handle on either side so you can grab it and balance it. Carrying it from the handle is a pain. Its way to heavy for that and I was afraid eventuallly the handle will let go. I got the road case from a local Company that made it here on LI and it only cost a little more than the Bigner cover was going to cost.
